Crossover finished! Now major power steering problems

Why not try the HELP section at O'Rielly's or Advance. They usually have odd parts like the gasket or the whole cap assy.
Been there done that. They didnt have it. A friend of mine did tho (the gasket that is). If the gasket maker doesnt work, Ill get a new cap, if that doesnt work something's really wrong and I'll get a whole new box if I have to

There is a thread on here somewhere about using radiator hose and attaching it to the neck of the power steering pump, you can cut the neck off another pump and clamp it to the top of the radiator hose and that way you will have a good connection for the cap.

Some guys say that when you turn a certain way the fluid is pushed into the pump faster than it can flow out the other side causing the pump reservior to overflow and get rid of some fluid and then you end up with a low fluid level.

Do a search for power steering pump mods by kid jethro. It has good free mods that will improve flow and can be done with the pump on the truck. Helped a heck of a lot with mine.

i replaced the seal below the rag joint and now it leaks bad.it drips after the engine is off.check that also.(yeah i sucked at replacing the seal).it runs down the spring. check the sreering box .

Ok I think I fixed it! :D:D:D

I tried lifting up the cap, putting the gasket in how it was suposed to and squeezing in a little gasket maker with it. This didnt work. I couldnt get any gasket maker on the frame side and it leaked like crazy again.

So I took the cap completely off and realized by now the gasket was messed up so i threw it away (gaskets are extra anyways, right?). Then I put about a bout a 1/4 to 3/8 bead of gasket maker all the way around where the gasket normally goes (and out a little from the center). Botled it back on but didnt tighten it down all the way since I didnt want to squish the gasket maker into the box (and cause I always do this with gasket maker).

Then today, I started it up and fluid was coming out of the cap still and the bolt holes and its was bubbling out and was pretty messy. I realized I was an idiot, and never tightened the bolts all the way down :doah:.

I tightened them down, and cracked one of the lines from the box and bled the system. All the air/fluid came out of this line. I had the pitman arm disconnected so I simply moved the draglink from lock to lock for a bit. Then I shut it off, checked the level and added some more (but didnt over fill of course ;)).

This where it got a little sketchy. Randomly, tons of fluid shoots out of the line onto the headers and plugs. There's smoke, which i've come to learn usally isnt a good sign. I shut it off immediately and washed it down. It scared me too cause I was talking to this guy and telling him about the leak and he insisted that I MUST fix it immediately because his truck shot fluid out onto the headers and started a fire and burnt his truck down :eek1::doah:. Fortunately my truck had only been running for a couple minutes and it wasnt hot, had it been hot then I might have had a problem

I started it up again and continued to bleed it untill hardly any fluid came out of the line and what did come out was fluid and not bubbles and air. Looking inside the pump, there's just about no bubbles.

I wiped everything down and it doesnt appear to be leaking any, but I'll have to wait and see if any leaks develop but I'm hoping its fixed for good.

Ok, its not fixed. At all. It's worse

I tried to take my truck wheelin and it wasnt leaking. I stopped at a friends house and I noticed it was leaking almost as much as it had before. But I had driven it before when it was leaking and if I just kept adding it was fine (expensive, but fine) so I wheeled anyways. Well all was fine untill my tire got stuffed into the front of the fender (I hadn't had a chance to trim more and with hte axle moved forward it rubs) and put more strain on it and it puked out everything. I filled it up and drove for about 30 secs...empty again.

So I left my truck up there and went down into down to get more fluid so I could limp it back. Got back and someone stole all my tools, my subs, and a bunch of other stuff I had in my truck. We even passed by who it must have been too. We even got a really blurry night vision shot of them passing by. CAlled the police but I know that's not going anywhere.

So yeah I'm just gonna get a new box.... and new tools
