i ordered a crossover steering kit (Dana 60) from http://www.sky-manufacturing.com/ i know i need a 2 wheel drive steering box. but is there anything else i need? is this just bolt in and go? is there a min lift for crossover? i only have a 2.5in lift right now. also anything else need to be changed? cross member or anything?

beacuse the draklink is bent and you only have 2.5 inches of lift, you might experience bind at full flex. Not really sure though. Hopefully someone with more experiene will chime in.

You better do some checking on the pitman arm. I would bet that the 4" dropped pitman would hit your upper spring plate with only 2.5" of lift.

your going to need at least 4 inches of lift for everything to clear properly. You might even have to notch crossmembers for clearance a little bit. btw, the steering box is a bolt on and go as long as the fittings are the same for your p/s pump hoses. For example, npt fittings w/ no o ring are the 73-79 boxes and the 80-91 boxes are the o-ring style connectors. as long as lines bolt to the box and the existing pump, the box bolts right on to the frame in the same spot.

with only 2.5" of lift, you may need to go with a 79 ford van pitman arm instead of the superlift arm that everyone uses.
the only thing with the ford van arm, you have to ream it out to use chevy TREs or DLEs.

why only 4in lift? because thats what i already have and i fit 39.5's with only 2.5in lift so why not keep my center of gravity low?

ok can i install the crossover and then put the lift on SOON just no wheeling before the lift is in?

Some nOObs in this thread need a smackdown.......................

Sad that a good person who's help built this site like mudhog gets this kind of treatment...................:doah:

X2

Shannon, with my 4" lift, ORD crossover w/ bent drag link things look a bit tight. I have wheeled it and nothing hits anywhere, but I know it's close in places.

As mentioned just make sure the 2WD box you get is the same as far as fittings go. It's better if your donor box has a pitman still attached to it, mine didn't and consequently I had to try and find a new pitman arm nut. After a lot of frustration I broke down and got it from the stealership...

You'll love the new turning radius!! :waytogo:

Not to highjack, but the crossover gives better steering radius too? I need a new steering box anyways, so I'm going there eventually.

ok so what i need to know is will this fit before i install the lift? or do i have to install the 4in lift BEFORE the crossover?

The pitman arm, and the engine crossmember are going to be the two places where you will be close. The pitman arm vs spring plate should only be an issue on compression, but you don't have much with 2.5" I imagine. If you have the draglink you could sort of hold it up there and see what kind of clearance you have. i would guess for just street driving you would be ok till you get the 4" kit on. This is one of those things like driveshafts it's a little bit different on every rig even with the same specs.
