Cruise Control, any different than gassers?

Is the cruise control on our rigs any different than the gassers? I don't know anything about cruise and mine just stopped working. I am wondering if I can use the troubleshooting from a gas truck manual or if someone can tell me what to look for or where to start. I always assumed that the gas CC used vacume so ours would be different but I don't know anything for sure about them.

Mine has some weird control box mounted on the drivers side firewall- It has a cable actutor going to the injector pump.

My donor motor from an '84 has a vacuum operated CC mounted on the injector pump (though I am removing it because my '79 does not have cruise).
