OK guys I have a CUCV 14 bolt axle in my garage w/the 4.56 and the detroit waiting to be put in. At the same time, I have a van width 14 bolt already installed in my truck that I've already cleaned up and painted and everything. The CUCV axle would take some pretty good work to get cleaned and painted...how hard would it be to just switch out the gears and carrier in the two? Would it involve setting the backlash all over again and all of that? It seems like if I can swap the gears here in the driveway then it will be way easier than me loading up that 600 lb axle and takin it to get the spring perches moved, then bringin it back and spending a good day sanding it down and painting it...

Pinion depth and backlash will need to be checked and or adjusted. I would remove the carrier and ring gear as an assembly and swap them complete.
