I was wondering what size wheels came on a CUCV blazer right out of the military. I was also wondering what size weels came on a M1008 1 ton chevy pickup from the military. If either of them are 16.5s will the military goodyear tires from the humvees fit on them. Will a humvee wheel fit on the d60 and the 14 bolt from the M1008. Has anyone used the humvee goodyear tire, are they worth buying or not.

CUCV Blazers (M1009's) came with standard 6-lug 15x8's, just without the chrome trim =))

I would assume the rest came with 16" wheels, but don't know details.

I got the Hummer tires on recentered hummer rims. They ride like crap on the road, and I believe my shaking issues are related to them, as I just went to crossover with new wheel bearings tierod ends balljoints draglink ends and an alignment. I will find out how they do offroad this weekend, I haven't had them aired down offroad yet(16.5 steel wagons aren't good for airing down so I never risked it just got the hummer rims recently).

CUCV blazers have 15X8s and 1-tons have 16.5s

EDIT: I'm dumb apparantly the 1-tons came with 16s

Hold on a minute here... your getting some bad info already :doah:

Which HMMV tires are you interested in? 36" bias ply or 37" radials? The 36" bias ply tires can be nearly impossible to balance. The radials are good tires.

The M1009 came with 15" wheels, the M1008/M1028/M1031 all came with 16" wheels. You can use stock GM 16.5" wheels on the M1008 axles though.

I'm running 37" HMMV radials on my truck with 2" of lift and they do great under 75 mph. Mine are mounted on aftermarket 16.5 x 9.75" wheels though.

What he said. Subscribed.

Definitely try for the 37" HMMWV radial tires.

The word on Steel Soldiers is that they are a wider version of GM's cheapo 15x7 steel wheel of the time. CUCV specific.

That would actually be the "base" civilian wheel then, not a ralley. I *think* there were three widths of the 15" stock wheels, but 15x7 and x8 in ralleys, never looked up the base wheel width(s) available.

I did not realize there were two different tires. What is better off road? Will i be able to air down the bias plys better. Which one has a better tread design. The truck i am building will never hit the open road ... pavement that is.

Neither are that great to write home about. A similar sized Swamper or other commercial mud tire would whoop both of them. That said the 36x12.5-16.5 Goodyear Wrangler RT/II would be the better of the two offroad.

I'm running the 37" radials because they are a decent highway tire with some offroad characteristics. But I drive on the road 90% of the time.

My experience with the bias and radial tires is on military HMMWV's only, that being said the trucks we had with bias ply tires performed better off road than the ones with raidal tires. The bias tires exhibited better traction on hills, much better lateral traction on side hills and muddy ruts, and better self cleaning characteristics at a much lower speed than the radials. The only terrain the radials seemed to do better was snow and frozen gravel roads. The bias tires are horrible on road, they make a swamper feel like a nice ride.

I've driven hummers that would jump side to side while driving down the road due to the unbalanced 36" tires.

Hi i just got some 35 mickey thompson tires (12.5 wide) fited on the original CUCV wheels; It would brak off my fenders if i'dd even try steering left or right because the truck is not lifted. What height lift would you recommend for my trauck in order to stay confortable on the road but with out having to cut thru the metal? thanks sergio

Thanks a lot for the fast advise there. i'm new on this forum and wanted to be able to really get or provide help from/to other memebers; i own 4 of those rigs that i got thanks to my job out of the german DRMO, as i'm located in Belgium at a NATO air base near SHAPE. Will go for a 4" lift then, I've seen some on ebay from ruff country, do you think it's a good idea going for those. io also have a k 30 in mint condition, they are all camo or olive drab ;) I also have a 91 Jimmy i got from a guy in vermont and drove it down from there to the port of new York last winter. that one has a 6" lift and it's defenatly unconfortable. Wish i could find how to post a picture here. i'll dig into that. thanks again take care

Look into the brand called Tuff Country. Pretty much the favorite on here. Soft ride, nice flex, and good quality.
