Anyone here actually buy a CUCV K5 or truck from the Gov? are there any left worth left buyin that arent spent, what does it take to get a hold of one?.

they sell them at auction pretty regular. They are pretty much like any other used cars. some are rust buckets, some are gems, totally depends.

I found mine on craigslist, seen a few more on there since. Mine wasnt a gem but it was a solid runner with some rust issues and a leaky oil pan. Got it for $1500, spent probably $3000 on it making it reliable (new starter, new alternators, new U-joints on the rear driveshaft, new brakes including bearings on the front spindles and quarter turn locking hubs). and a bunch of small nickle and dime stuff.

Basically you get what you pay for. A clean solid CUCV for $4000 that dosnt need any work, to me is worth it.

Also, keep in mind the different types of CUCV's, blazers, pickups, duallys, cab and chassis trucks. etc.

Got mine(m1008 1 ton pickup) from a state park outside of Houston. Wasnt running because it had a bad starter and a chewed up flywheel, but it was completely rust free and had 39k miles on the clock so I jumped on it. After that was done, I came back to this website and lost my mind by completely tearing it down and had to put it in storage before getting it back on the street.

Anyways, payed 1000 for it the way it was, and have about $2500 into it. If you looking for something with power windows, locks etc then just find a clean 1 ton silverado. But if your looking for a bare bones tough ass truck that your going to wheel, then get the cucv. I would say for a good condition rust free and low mileage cucv pickup, I would spend up to $2500 or maybe $3k. I am sure the northeast guys would pay a bit more for being rust free though.

Seems here in Ca there few and far between. Theres a K5 and one truck within reach and either are $5K and not worth that IMO. Id be thrilled to fine one thats not beat to hell for $4k and ready to drive. One of the members here had one in KY I think it was for $2100...thats a steal from what ive seen so far.

i seem to find mine from people who bought them from auctions and didnt want them anymore. i just picked up a 85 k30 for 250 bucks.... no drivetrain or axles and had to drive 750 miles to get the thing. but out here i have never seen a m1008 yet. see a few of the k5 versions but never the pick up
