How so? Lots of different types of farming in lots of different climates and terrains. I assume you are referring how you guys all use grain carts vs. my self propelled rig. You want to talk about different types of farming... my almond operation is waaaayyyy different then grain farming. Biggest tractor I have for the trees is 95HP and it's barely even 6' tall with a cab.
Nah, our fields are really small. Rice is weird. My biggest field is 100 acres. Now, inside that 100 acres it's divided into over 20 different squares with borders dividing them all up. Average field or "check" as we call them, is 5 acres.
Looks like you are down south. Down there things were bleak.... Up here in OID, things were better. Besides, rice doesn't really use anymore water than any other crops, and is pretty close to almonds and walnuts. Usually uses less than pasture and alfalfa. I did however, fallow some rice last summer to use that water allotment on my Almonds.
You know, you stop and think for a second, California is one incredible state. From the cool weather fresh and exotic vegetables grown along the coast like artichokes and asparagus, to the diary heartland in the central valley, 500K acres of rice and bird wildlife up north, fruit trees, nut trees, grapes, beef.... on top of that Death Valley that is almost 300ft below sea level to Mt, Whitney that is 14,500 ft high in the Sierras. What a place, just if we could get our screwed up politics fixed....
