You should be able to get codes out of the dash as an SPN number....I have Cummins Quickserve and can look them up for you. We run a fleet of school buses almost exclusively freightliners with 6.7s, they are solid engines but like any newer diesel, emissions is troublesome. The EGR ports on the intake tend to plug up and cause all kinds of issues. Getting it out on the highway once and awhile would be good for it as I'm sure it sees its fair share of idle time (PTO).
We have Cummins insite (Maintenance Supervisor and myself) but all of our shops have these scanners which work well for everything but more indepth diagnostic tests:
