Custom soft top windshield bracket

So I can piss people off by searching for and resurrecting old threads, or piss people off by starting a new one to ask my questions - I'll save the thread count and resurrect this one.

I created a similar windshield bracket as Brian, but cannot get my point across to a local (non English) upholstery shop.

Who has pics of Bikini tops and mounts and where did they come from? I'm mostly interested in the fabric components and how it was made etc. Brian has a good thread here for the windshield brace.

I know this is a necro'd thread, but that bracket is sweet!
I've got a soft top now that has snaps right on the frame itself and every one of them is rusty now. I'd really like to clean up and seal all the holes and use a bracket like you've got.

doesn't sound like you had to use an exotic tools to make it, so I think I may give it a go. :waytogo:

thanks for the post! btw, since you've obviously had it for awhile now, any issues come up?

Yes it has been about 1 1/2 years. Pros/cons? I'm ready now to address this on the ole 69

I made one for someone else so maybe they can comment. Mines still working fine, but the hardtop is on it at the moment.

The edging for the fabric top isn't anything fancy. It's just a 1"x 1/16" x 48" long strip of plastic sewed onto the edge to make it more rigid. Maybe I can find some more pictures.

If you aren't using the overhang to hold the top, you may not need to bend the overhang down, although it might help to keep wind from flowing up under the snap area.

In order to keep all this info/pictures in one place I'll hijack this post with pictures of my attempt at a soft top windshield frame mount. 1st off I too chose aluminum (Price wise it was not cheap aprox $75 for enough to do 2 of them.) 2 pieces 1/8 in thickness 6ft long and 5in wide. Kinda wished I had use steel as i can weld steel and not being able to weld aluminum, it created a design challenge having tabs that needed to be bent in the correct places for mounting. It took me about 5hrs to make this as pattern, cutting, fitting, bending had to be correct (no redo's due to the no welding factor) and it's still not perfect. I broke the OLD soft top out and let it sit in the sun for a day after being folded up for many years. Installed the(Home made) side rails and threw the top on to size it up for snap locations on the windshield piece. It's mostly done but now I can take my time and tweak on it at my leisure

Yep. Just got back from the suck the $$$$$ out of my pocket station(gas). I put up the sides to roll safari style, It seemed to work out pretty good. I need to put the last snaps on and work on the aesthetics of it thou.

are you running any type of gasket under it? I'm planning on something similar for mine once I fix the windshield frame. I just don't want any water shooting in if it starts raining. Looks pretty good!:waytogo:

Is this a work area or a cocktail bar? Or both??

It's a Kool-Aid Bar as I quit drinking many many many (you get the point) years ago.

No gasket as of yet. Yes it will need something as you can see light between the 2 pieces. I'm not quite done messing with it.

looking forward to seeing what you come up with. I'd very much like to do the same thing with my soft top.

how much pressure is it putting on the bends for the bolts? seems like with aluminum it will pull hard enough to eventually bend there.:dunno:

Pressure at this time seems not too much. I suppose only time and use will tell.

Now the trick is going to be mounting off road lights off the cage, I'm open to ideas at this time.
