how would i go about cutting 2 ft. off my truck??

its a long bed and want to get it close to a short bed. any input welcome

do you want to take a section out of the frame or just lop it off?

to take a section out you ought to (try and visualize this) from the bottom of the frame cut up half then sideways a foot then up the last half of the frame rail. do that twice making a two foot section. then weld it back together and then plate over it with a big plate with two coke can size holes in it. then weld those holes too. know what i mean vern?

Basically make a "z" in the frame that way it will all lay back together to be welded. This is stronger than a butt weld.

That's what you're trying to say right obijuan?

they did it on "trucks" i think you can find that episode on powerblocks website. he just cut straight up 1/2 way through the frame, then over about 12" and then straight up again. it was on i think an...65ish c10? my memory is bad. but they bagged it and everything also.

i am not a great welder, or well i dont have a welder any more :(
i was just thinking moving the axle and cutting the end off.... would that work??

yeah thats what i was trying to say! saw that **** on trucks! it was the episode where they sectioned a 60s c10 longbed as well if i remember right.

I've seen that done. I guy locally here that I've delt parts to and bought from has done what your saying. He wanted a short 1 ton frame. He said it was a ton of work and would never do it again. I cant tell you specifics but just that it worked.

Check out the Trucks videos, they not only sectioned the frame, but they shortened the long bed to make it a short bed. When they were done you couldn't tell that it wasn't built by GM as a short bed C10.
