cutting for 42"s

Ya, the rear should be good to go now. Im going to try the zero rates offset forward. and if i need the room i have another inch or so that i could easily hack out.

yea with the axle forward it makes it more manable to keep the rear portion. for the front you might want to cut straight across right below the turnsignal. heres mine as an example for now, ~9" lift and 42" iroks, axle 3.5" forward

ill be honest, i never even thought about cutting the bottom portion of the fender off below the parkinglight thing. i might have to do that, good thinkin

yep, makes a huge difference when flexing cuz 42's are huge. youd hate to cut up your new tires...they are expensive!:doah:

i went with iroks cuz i had 39.5 iroks before and they rode awesome on the highway, so i felt i couldnt go wrong with iroks again. i also wanted a narrower tire than a 15" so the 14" of the irok was perfect, plus they both have bout the same tread depth.

the only thing that worries me about the Irok is, im afraid that the locker, paired up with a stout 406 small block on the road, under a fullsize truck might just shred them to pieces in no time. I had a set of 36 iroks on my old Solid axle swapped toyota and they seemed to be a real soft compound.

How are your iroks doin when it comes to wear??

well i havent driven the 42's long enough (only 6miles so far:doah:), but when i had the 39.5 version (less tread depth than the 42" version) on my other rig (k5 with detroits front and rear) they wore pretty well. they would chirp once in a while cuz the detroit but nothing major. i didnt get them balanced and i took them up to 75mph on the highway with no vibrations at all. i ended up selling them after about 2k miles cuz i wanted to get 42's (had the 39.5's vs 42's debate, got the 39.5's and wished id gotten the 42's), and when i sold them the tread still looked like new. air pressure is also very important in keepin them lasting, i think i ran them at about 22psi and that was perfect to get a good wearing pattern for the street.

Sounds like you had pretty good luck with them. anything is better then the boggers i have now!!:haha: i think iroks would be better for my situation, i need to just bite the bullet and order.

haha yea i know. i remember the price going up a decent amount from the time i bought the 39.5's to a year later when i bought the 42's. if i had bought the 42's the first time i coulda saved a decent amount of money. you wont be disappointed with them.

thanks for the insight, nobody i know runs em on the chevs only little toyotas. ill be sure to post up when they come in.

btw i love your K5!

thanks, which it still looked like that. the axles were sold from it to fund other necessities, so its in the process of being brought back to life, its gona be much better than before hopefully. here are some more pics of it back in its glory days.

Whats springs are you running in the rear? they look pretty damn long. 56's or 63's maybe?

Thanks for the kind words. I tried to keep the stock look to the fenders so I went a bit further then most. I took a tape meassure and hooked it to the edge of the fenders and every 3 or 4 inches or so I put a dot with a sharpie marker. i measure up 3 inches from the fender. Once I had a dotted line I "connected the dots" with some black electrical tape to give myself a refference line. down at the bottom of the fenders I flared them out quite a bit. Close to 6 inches forwards and back from the stock opening.

I chose to use a 5 inch cutting disk on a grinder I made sure to "score" and nice clean line first before I cut all the way through (in the past ive just dug into the metal and they always seemed to come out crooked) With that line scored in, I went back over it and cut through the body panel. In some places the cut off wheel wasnt big enough to reach all the way through both the outside and inner fenderwell. In those places I just stuck the sawzall through the cut and finished the inner fenderwell off.

Thanks for the tips! Much appreciated! I'll be happy if mine end up looking anywhere near as good as yours!:waytogo:Good luck w/ the 42's!
