So like I was saying in the coronavirus thread, I've been stocking up on stuff to keep me busy for when I either got laid off, or the state shut down. Now that I'm on my vacation, I can get started.

I got this order from Summit.Screenshot_20200316-113211_Yahoo Mail.jpgThis one from Jegs.
Screenshot_20200320-161812_Yahoo Mail.jpg I also have a comp 268H, new Summit brand HEI distributor, and an edelbrock performer intake that I scored for free, off a good friend of mine.

Along with the parts I've been stockpiling, is a Quadrajet off a 1978 chevy truck with a 350 and manual transmission, which incidentally works out perfectly, though in desperate need of a rebuild.

I ordered a recalibration kit from quadrajetpower.com, along with the reamer to bush the primary throttle shaft.

This will be my first experience with AN fittings, and braided stainless line. I'm really looking forward to it. If I didnt feel the fuel pressure regulator was necessary, I would've just got the pre bent steel line for $19, but looking back, knowing what I know now, all the carb issues I had back in the day were mainly pressure related. With the general shittyness of most aftermarket parts these days, and the Qjet's sensitivity to fuel pressure, I decided it needed to be part of the swap.

Also, I'll probably get some hate, but the full TBI swap I did in like 2009 never worked right after sitting for ten years, and I dont want to mess with it anymore. Luckily my block is one of those funky ones that is drilled for a fuel pump pushrod, even though it came out of a TBI truck. I won't be doing any wheeling the Qjet can't handle, I'm more of a hot rodder anyway, and like to mess with stuff. Not to mention it will end up being more of a stockish restoration project eventually.

Here's the cam card. Really exciting stuff. I figured this cam with the single pattern would crutch the shitty swirl intake port some, and still work with the stock heads in the valve guide to retainer area, while making good power.

Here's some more pictures, I'm not going to mount the regulator this way, I was just seeing how it fit. 20200325_183142.jpg20200325_183132.jpg

And here's the turd. 2.5" lift, cooper 285's, ford wheels, and a roller paint job to make it one color.

Another task for my vacation is to get up north to a friend's place, uninstall an SM465/205 and pedals from a parts truck, after I've uninstalled the TH350/203 from this, so he can have it. I also have an LUK ceramic clutch, and flywheel waiting as well.

Did some stuff today. Got it all torn down. Will start putting stuff together tomorrow probably, if the weather holds.

Amazing how I haven't been inside a SBC in over a decade now, but it was easier than riding a bike. 20200328_142616.jpg 20200328_132042.jpg

Oh, and yes, there was room for me to stand on the ground, while still in the engine compartment. Man I love these trucks.

It's a good feeling making a little headway. Things were going great, then life seemed to keep getting in the way for the last year or so.
Completely understand how that goes. Hopefully the lay off is short lived too

Thanks. I'm hoping things get back to normal soon. It sucks, but at least it's not 25 below zero, and I've been wanting out of this company anyway.

I'm better off collecting unemployment, than what I would make commuting, for only 2-3 days a week or whatever we would be down to.

I have a feeling this will create some interesting job ripples before all tee dusy settles. Might be a good time to be on the hunt

Good to see you are on that truck again!
Pretty similar to mine but different.

What’s with the 454?

Similar, but crappy? Lol. I hope it's as nice as yours. I've got a body I want for it, now just to make that happen. Did you find a set of the ford wheels yet?

The 454 I bought off a kid I worked with for $250. He said that he pulled it from the truck, and stored it inside when the truck got scrapped. Obviously wasn't the case. The carb that was on it was a small cfm holley spreadbore, it was pretty much seized solid from exposure to water. Then mice managed to get into the lifter valley. That base of the distributor needs to get burned out.

It's a 445 block with 781 heads. For what I paid I cant complain too much. With the TH400, and all the accessories, and brackets, even if the engine itself turns out to not be useable, I did really well on the deal.

You did good on that BB I couldn’t even find brackets for mine. Plus the heads are worth something!

My truck looks way better in pictures than it actually is. It needs a ton of work to be really nice.
Never did find Ford wheels, seen some for cheep but to far away. Ultimately 16x8 Wheelvintque would be sweet.

She might have a few whisky dents but they suit her. Nice truck dude! I always wished my sm465 wasn't behind a tbi 350 with 81 HP, especially after driving ratbag hah. Starting to think everyone should get a month off, once a year, to catch up on their square bodies.

Thanks. It got a little dented in the woods when I was young, dumb, and wanted a mud truck/wheeler.
