Hey all happy holidays!
Hey so I am replacing intake manifold gaskets, valve cover gaskets and I have everything off the engine. I was thinking since I have everything off I might as well replace head gaskets. I was also thinking of just purchasing new edelbrock heads for more horsepower. I was looking at the edelbrock performer rpm cylinder heads. My question is, are these good heads for a little more power? Do I need to order anything else besides the gaskets to install? And also is it a complicated job if I’ve never done it before?

Yeah you’ll gain some power, depending what you have. More gains based on what cam you’re using

The most complicated part is setting the rockers. That takes some patience and learning.

I was planning on watching a YouTube video to install them.
Yeah the hardest part really is getting the head bolts torqued properly. Make sure you get the right instructions with the bolts you get.
TTY or torque to yield have one way and regular bolts have a different way.
I personally will not use a TTY anymore I have some stretching too far even using their instructions

Before you spend money on new heads. Knowing the piston shape, dome, flat or dish, deck height measurement are important for choosing the cylinder head chamber size.
Is thi a throttle body infection, carb, or other type induction?
Was that talk to text?

It’s carbureted, it’s for my 1982 k5 blazer. I used chat gpt to hopefully get the correct heads, I ordered the edelbrock performer cylinder heads part# 60909 from summit racing. Hopefully these work. From what I was looking up they should be similar to stock heads.

Whole lotta wrong info comes out of that AI.
I'd be sure to double check with humans lol.
Posting the part number like you did on here is a good way to help with that.

@folkenheath is your guy for deals on parts and also guidance in parts choice .
Thank you.

I think your original choice was better if you want more power.

Then again I don't know what restrictions you have there in CA so you may be limited from a cam swap and RPM heads, which is what I would of done. The performer still has the exhaust crossover which I would of skipped.

I like the throttle body infection the most.
I never really liked the tbi.

That sounds contagious. :waytogo:

I did also double check with a google search and posting here is triple checking. I come here in hopes for some experienced knowledge from those who are kind enough to help. I am extremely grateful to those that do share their knowledge.

Those heads will bump your compression up above 9,depending on piston, deck hight and gasket volume.

Be sure to note all the specs, before assembly. You'll be thankful later.

I also ordered a new edelbrock cam and lifters part# 2103 and the edelbrock head gasket part# edl-7310 and a new edelbrock timing chain set part# 7802, I also plan on taking the engine block to a machine shop to clean up engine and install new freeze plugs and cam bearings and whatever else they suggest
