I just changed out the 10 bolt in my 86 Suburban to a D44 that was in much better condition. Only problem i've run across so far is the D44 is missing the metal vent tube part that goes into the case. And the vent tube from the 10 bolt is a larger size. Where can I find one of them suckers? Junkyard is a hit and miss thing. Anybody ever purchased this from the dealer?

I don't know if that part is even available or not. Easy fix tho is to pop the cover on the diff, put some duct tape over the vent hole and run a tap down it for a brass fitting. Depending on the brass fitting, you might have to drill out the hole a bit before tapping /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Thats a good idea, thanks. I was thinking maybe I would have to drill out the hole to make the 10 bolt vent tube fit. I'm kinda lazy somtimes, rather buy the part than mickey mouse something. But your probably correct, the part most likely is not available.

I had the same problem once with a 12b I replaced my 10b with in my old 84. It was damaged. I got on from the dealer for about 4 bucks. That was in 98. They probably would have one, but you never know for sure. May be worth a call, before you start. /forums/images/graemlins/dunno.gif
