D60 spindle nut socket

Is it me or is the spindle nut on a D60 a different size then other front axles. I have two different spindle nut sockets and neither of them seem to fit. Yes I know I should do a search on this, but it has been a really long day, and I just need to know if I need to stop art NAPA on the way home tomorrow:D .
 
I had a Dana 60 hub socket..... but it had six prongs. Perhaps it was for Fords or something. Had to go buy a Chevy 4 prong socket.
 
My Dana 60 needed a 6-prong one. It's bigger in diameter than the 4-prong 1/2T and 3/4T one.

I jsut went through this last week and I needed a four pronger with the prongs on the inside instead of at the end. The lable on the package said it was for Ford F350 1 -Ton. Another guy on here told me he had the same experience. I am running military axles, maybe that's why
 
I have a socket that has the 4 prongs on the inside and 6 prongs on the end so it will do either style of nuts. :thumb:
 
The Dana 60 uses the same Inner and outer bearings and races, spindle nuts as the 14 bolt 10.5"
 
I have no idea where i got it. I have 3 different sockets which will cover and D44, 10 bolt, 14 bolt, or D60. I could always look and find out what brand it is for you though. I know one of the sockets i have is either a Mac or Snap-on.

Not sure about that, since the socket I use on my 14b did not fit my D60. Stopped at NAPA on the way home and picked up one for a 1 ton, which fit and is different then the socket I use for my 14B.

Napa part#775-9027 says it fits Dana 50 ifs and dana 60 F-350 1985 to 1997 AND 1987 GM 30 series frontends Mine is a 4 prong have not used it yet so not sure if it will fit my 78 model Dana 60:(

That would be the one I purchased yesterday, and it fit perfectly.
 
Okay well I guess I better try mine then I lost my other socket my both of my 60's came from 78 model trucks
 
He is correct, D60 and 14FF use the same inner and outer bearings but there are 2 different styles of spindle nuts.
 
I have the newer key-way style from a 14ff on the front 60 and the rear 14ff. I like being able to use the same socket for the front and the rear axles.
 
Same here, I got a few extra spindle nuts the last time I was at the junk yard and put them on my front 60, one socket front and rear. The wheel bearings are the same for sure, I have a few from each axle out and they are teh same size. I have also heard, though I dont have personal experience with it yet because I havent gotten into the rear of my crew cab. But I understand that the wheel bearings for the rear 60's and dana 70's are also the same. Which will be nice if its true because then I can have wheel bearings for all the axles under my trucks and not have to worry about which ones are for which axle. 14, 60, or a 70.:waytogo:
