So this last week was spring break. I needed to do something. wife and kids were heading to Vegas Monday night so I decided a quick wheeling trip for my daughter and I. She is 5 years old and does awesome. Since we went on short notice I checked the Webejeepin site and found Metal Masher was up on Saturday. So Friday night I got us packed. In the process of checking things over I found a front Ujoint that was shot. So at 9:30 I quit packing clothes and start fixing the blazer. At about 12:30am I finish packing and fixing. Shower and crawl into be. Next morning I am up at 5:30 and get the little one up. She slept the whole way... Despite being bright eye and bushy tailed at first.

She soon faded and slept all the way to Moab.

At sunrise she woke just as we were starting down the hill into town...

After getting to town we quickly stopped at the campground, left the tow rig, hooked up rear driveline and and took off to meet the group. The day was great, but being a driver, watching a 5 year old and trying to run the camera did not match well. The first thing I noticed is pace with buggy types is a lot faster. At the end of the day I felt like I just spent all day bouncing around in a 40 year old blazer. It was a fun trip and great group of guys, maybe next time I will have a buggy...

At any rate here are some more pics. the second day we ran steel bender in a smaller gorup while others headed to prichet. Here are a few pics. The only part I attempted and failed was the rock chucker. I was too short and fat with my 36" tires. Rock chucker won. But the rest of the trip I tried taking the harder lines.

Over all we had a great trip. Nothing broke. Daughter had fun, we spent afternoons in the pool/hot tub. We ate good food had ice cream each night. Played in the park and made noise.....

Hope u enjoyed. Sorry I left the camera in camp second day...

My daughter (also 5) would rather go wheelin with dad than just about anything.

Although it is hard watchin em soometimes Bailey has been enough she knows to stay out of the way for the most part but we talk about where she should be and what goes on during recoveries and stuff so she knows what I expect

That's awsome my first is due in july but my wife said our daughter is never going to be allowed in the blazer she hates wheelin any sugestions??

I know I still have a few years but when did you start taking yours along?

My daughters first trip to Moab was when she was right at 1 year old. The best thing is do all you can to make your rig safe, roll bars, seats etc. I had like 3 different strap to make momma ok. I would suggest a good family vacation out west, with momma and child. Know where to draw the line and go easy once they get used to it start a little more and a little more. There is nothing wrong with letting the little ones to play while the rigs are on obsticles.

My son went on his first Moab trip when he 4 months old. He did awesome and 2 of his first 3 words were Jeep, and blaz... Followed by no....

I also found that getting the little ones in the shop area when safe to do helps a bunch, let them mess with hand tools. Let em crawl under the vehicle with you etc. the more they see the cooler it gets and pretty soon you will have your 2.5 year old grabbing a 4 way throwing it on hte ground and saying... Dammit Dammit Dammit as she stomps off... (true story)...

the other main suggestion, fins friends with kids who go wheeling. Our best family friends all wheel and have kids. It helps a bunch...

I don't remember the first time Bailey went with us but Sawyer was barely 4 months old when we went to Moab with him.

I have the whole family get out while I do certain things and Kristle ended up having to sit in back with Sawyer cause it was a bit too bouncy.

Bailey still gets a little scared but I have done some pretty scary stuff with her in with me still.

She still gets scared but not as much.

The first trails you take kids on need to be pretty mild, they really won't notice much ( at least mine didn't) until they hit 3 or so.
