Damm, I found out what "Death Wobble" is!!!

I have death wobble, I actually experienced it when getting tow strapped down the road when my motor blew a rod. I have not experienced it with my 42's yet, but they are brand new. My 39.5 were doing it on the tow strap though, but they are worn pretty bad...

On topic ive never had deathwobble but i cracked my brake pads from overheating them and now if they grab the wrong way the truck shakes pretty good but im sure its not as bad as deathwobble

somebody wrote that hooking up the stabilizer would nt help
Actually it will help, maybe even replacing with new one.
After I put my 60 in and with 37s , I didnt have any issues with death wobble till about 400 miles later. I first took off the old stabilzer and noticed how much play it had, so I installed a new one. I didnt have any probs after that. I did read in here about the a new stabilizer will just mask the problem, so I bought upper kingpin re-build kits and did that just incase. That was about 2000 miles ago and havent had any death wobble. :thumb:
I have read hydro assist and crossover gets rid of the death wobble also, but being on a bologna budget, I went the route of just replacing factory parts and it worked for me for now.
when you go larger and larger on the tires and more and more offset, it will cause lots of problems and wear out parts faster. and I really do not think the factory steering was designed around 42" meats 15" wide :dunno: :D

When i first put the 60 in my truck i just bolted it in and didnt replace anything, 500 miles later it shook so bad it made my girlfriend cry, it was nasty, was that bad that over 15 it would throw you all over the place. So i tried the washer trick and that worked for a while, until it started again. Then i noticed a huge crack in the frame rail behind the steering box, then was the time i did, the bolt on , the weld on and crossover. That solved it for a few years then it happened again.....i was pissed, so i did all the king pins, bearings, joints etc...plus added hydro assist. Its been a year now and all has been good even with bias 39s.

Yeah, my wife flipped out the first time she felt it... Anyone that hasn't had serious death wobble can't understand just how bad it is... Some cases get very violent and can be extremely dangerous...

I never did hydro assist or cross over, I went full hydro and doubt I'll ever have an issue with it again... But, my truck is a trail only rig and gets towed to and from... I do have buddies that "fixed" theirs with assist and cross over, they still drive their trucks on the street from time to time... I love the full hydro on the trail, but didn't like the way it felt when I drove it around the neighborhood on the street...

Mine only does it sometimes if I'm gliding at around 25-30

You can't really notice it though

people driving behind you tend to get REALLY pissed too when you slam on your brakes for what they see is no apparent reason too  :D

not sure how bad it gets with the bigger tires and front diffs, but i did experience some with my 35's and 10 bolt once, almost no control when it starts going on and practically rips the steering wheel from your hands.

yeah, it sucks.

Mine you can easily see something is definitely wrong from the car behind the truck.:doah:

Yeah, mine too.... Couple years ago a few of us ran Pritchett all the way out to the road, I had some DW, the guys behind me saw it all. Tires jumping side to side. Horrible.

maybe for someone who may know what's going on, but for some plain Jane soccermom who drives by the taillights, she's not gonna notice your whole front end wobbling or truck shaking, she's just gonna think "what a piece of sh!t,,,WHY IS HE SLAMMING ON HIS BRAKES !" :D

I adjusted the psi to 16 per side. One was at 21 and the other at 16. I also need to adjust the tierod. The front of the tire is 1.5" wider than the rear of the tire. I did secure the stabilizer and took around the block. No DW, but I was still scared it might happen, felt like it wanted to though. I will adjust the tierod tomorrow. On Monday, I'm ordering the drivers highsteer arm from Balistic. I'm going with the springless arm instead of the springless cap. Might as well!

Sheet yeah they do! I get alot of people telling me im #1. My DW started about 200 Mi after my D60 install. No stabilizer or anything and no DW at first. then one day coming home off the trail and it started up. Now my wife is terrified of my Blazer and wont even ride in it anymore. I did the washer shim and hooked up a stabilizer but still no dice, saving up for the twizted offroad panhard kit.

If you want REAL Death Wobble try driving home 40 miles back from Hacketts Gulch with no shocks because your shock brackets broke off! If i sneezed while driving it home it would set it into a conniption. :woot:

Yep I definitely have death wobble now

Looks like I'll be needing some washers

Here is how I got rid of mine: Springless arms! At first I did crossover and bought one Pass. springless arm. Drove it and had some still. Added 2 washers on the drivers arm. It worked a lot better with my 38" radials, not so much with my 42" Bias TSLs. So, I bought the drivers side springless arm and a new bigass tierod from ORD. Now it is a lot better. How is your tierod? I thought mine was fine, But, A new tierod worked real good. Also I put on a new stabalizer. That also helped.

mine used to do it when I hit the brakes. I could figure it for the life of me. But my pads started going so I replaced the pads and rotors all at once. Turned out my rotors were warped pretty bad and the brakes would oscilate opposite of each other and throw my truck all over my lane and sometimes I would take my half out of the middle of the next guys lane.
