Damm, I found out what "Death Wobble" is!!!

Here is how I got rid of mine: Springless arms! At first I did crossover and bought one Pass. springless arm. Drove it and had some still. Added 2 washers on the drivers arm. It worked a lot better with my 38" radials, not so much with my 42" Bias TSLs. So, I bought the drivers side springless arm and a new bigass tierod from ORD. Now it is a lot better. How is your tierod? I thought mine was fine, But, A new tierod worked real good. Also I put on a new stabalizer. That also helped.

I have everything that people have said helped but the springless arms :dunno:

I'll get some washers in this weekend hopefully, I really don't want to get new arms

You have hyro assist also? Damm, I thought that was the best cure other than all new parts. I hope Scott(4x4High) gets on here. He will know what's up.

Looks good buy the way! I need hydo soon!

Check the play in the sector shaft in the box.

Make sure the pitman arm nut is torqued down and the nut is not bottoming out before making the pitman arm tight.

Anything and just about everything in the front end can contribute in my experience. Including leaf springs. Check the u bolt torque.

Ya pretty much got to look at everything under the front end.

Good thinkin Kert, I found all my u bolts were loose also! I tightened them at least 1.5 complete turns. Make sure they are tight.

Hey, thanks again for that badazz front diff cover with the hydro mount! I can't wait for the hydro!

No problem! I already have the cylinder ready to go.:D

I don't think ANYONE has figured out any one thing that is the cause for DW but in my case after checking/replacing EVERYTHING imagineable I finally added hydro assist and haven't had any DW since.

COME ON PEOPLE. I know its almost certainly an old picture of work in progress, but really.
No one is going to call him on the loose tie rod end castle nut and the loose spring shackle nut when he is talking about death wobble???

Sheet yeah they do! I get alot of people telling me im #1. My DW started about 200 Mi after my D60 install. No stabilizer or anything and no DW at first. then one day coming home off the trail and it started up. Now my wife is terrified of my Blazer and wont even ride in it anymore. I did the washer shim and hooked up a stabilizer but still no dice, saving up for the twizted offroad panhard kit.

If you want REAL Death Wobble try driving home 40 miles back from Hacketts Gulch with no shocks because your shock brackets broke off! If i sneezed while driving it home it would set it into a conniption. :woot:

We will have a trick new panhard setup soon, but that won't help death wobble. No panhard setup will.

The problem is harmonics in the steering. These are exaggerated by big tires, worn out joints, etc. If the truck is heavy enough and/or the kingpin spring/bushings are worn out enough, they can cause it.

However, the ultimate causes of these things can be pretty complex. Alignment, tire balance, brakes, wheel bearings, lower knuckle bearings (often overlooked), etc can all cause this on top of what has been mentioned.

The panhard helped mine out allot. probably more than anything else I have tried, i have not installed springless arms.

I was just about ready to post that, but kept reading...:D

Bad bushings in your springs can add to it as well...

I haven't had a problem with it since I went full hydro...:waytogo:

I went from having a 1" difference in toe in to a 1/4" difference in tow in. Measure from front side of tire and back side of tire with straight edges strapped to the tires. I think the tow in should equate to half what I measured. So from 1/2" to 1/8"

Do you guys that will help much?

1" is way too much, so it should help something

I may throw the shims in and take a look at the bottom ball joints also

OK so after I had my first DW last week, I decided to take my truck with a trailer in tow full of scrap just 10 miles down the road....
Well I almost peed my pants.
The truck was perfect running 33" tires, I changed the axle only with stock sized tires, and the DW started, so I know it's in the axle, nothing in the steering box or frame or even springs.
I will go back and tighten the Ubolts, and check the bushing in the King pin, if it's good I will add a washer or 2 and see if it helps.:dunno:
