Both shafts on my '88 Suburban are toast. I've got the lockouts off and I know that you need to remove some clips but I'm having a hard time finding them. Maybe I'm blind!
And yes it's a 44 under an 88. Don't know if it was swapped in.
Looks like the internal snap ring is still inside the lip of the hub. It looks like a thick piece of wire that goes around the inside of the hub (maybe about 1/2” from the end) to hold the locking hub in. Need a pick or thin screwdriver to get it out.
