I'm working on rebuilding my dana 44, and the dust covers or whatever they are called are rusted out. The part I'm talking about is a metal shield that bolts onto the caliper bracket with 6 bolts I think. I believe it's supposed to keep excess dirt out. My question is where do I find these metal shields? Is this something that O'Reilly would have?

are you talking about the dust cover on the backing plates? if so thay fall off all the time around hear. no biggy. i have 2 new full steel backing blates for 1/2 ton. if you want a deal and realy want dust protection.

Don't a lot of people just remove them anyway? Heard people complain about them trapping dirt and rocks...

yeah, the more I thought about it, I decided they are just gonna trap more dirt and rust away again. Thanks for the help though.
