Dana 44 - How to beef up ???

[ QUOTE ]
Here, just like PBB:

This post is second only to:

WTF?? the rear axle is narrower than the front??

It's obvious you don't search or you wouldn't be so set on ground hawgs.

Enough is enough...BAN Z3PR

NOTE: I've searched for hours and hours without being able too find what I need. So I ask questions and for opinions. When some of y'all jump my a$$ saying too search, or "you're waisting bandwith" it's very frustrating. If it's covered already, please include a link to the thread(s), couse I'm having a problem finding the information I need. Thank you.

why does the PBB have such a bad rap? cuz they talk smack if your a mall poser like me? Jeeezus, the GFY racing forums make the PBB look like Kindergarten.

[/ QUOTE ] No thank, I'll take your word for it. To me PBB just doesn't feel inviting like CK5 used too.

Why don't you ask the question that you aren't able to find an answer for. You're not going to convince anyone that there are no post on how to beef a dana 44. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Those that are actually responding on-topic in this post are failing to realize what 38" tires do to ball joints on a 44 or 10b. Also, as I've mentioned many times, once my 44 was beefed up I started breaking ring gears. Try changing one of those on the trail. /forums/images/graemlins/thinking.gif

It's a pretty simple thing - spending money beefing a d44 to live with 38s on it under a fullaize is a waste of money. Period, end of story. People have made beefed 44s live under narrow 37s, but a wide 38 is just too much tire.

[/ QUOTE ] Thank you. That explains what I needed to know. So now my reality is that it'll be a few years befor I'll have a Dana 60. (As hard as I try, I just can't save up over a thousand bucks at a time, I'm week, I end up spending it on something else I think I need) So I'm just going too run 36's till I can get my hands on a D60. I can avoid the big rocks till then, I'm content with the trails most stock vechiles can handle, well maybe just alittle more then that, but I can take it easy an the loud pedel. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif Thanks. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

but if someone asks how to beef up a dana 44, and the only
acceptable answer is get a dana60,
then the same principle should be applied to everything else, how to add power to a small block, the answer should be it will never be as strong as a big block dont waste
your time, can i upgrade my 241 or 208, it will never be as
strong as a 205 dont waste your time, etc etc etc, whats so hard about giving a direct answer to a direct question, /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

I thought that my answer was fairly direct. Would you prefer that experience and opinion play no role in replies to people's questions?

Your comparison to the small blaock and t-cases is flawed. For many people small block power is adequate; there's nothing you can attach to an engine that will make it break any sooner, except for the obvious things like never changing the oil or something like that. T-cases are the same way, it's not like you can put on too big of a driveshaft and break a t-case because of it.

I think you can do plenty with 36" tires. I've seen a Suburban do amazing things with 35's, I think going to bigger tires may make it easier on the trail, but a good driver can do plenty with 35-36" tires /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

[/ QUOTE ]Didn't anyone ever tell you that if you don't have anything positive to say, then don't say anything at all ??? I'm all for playin' around in OT, but keep it real in the tech forums please.

[ QUOTE ]
So what ratio R&Ps were you breaking?Brand of gears?

[/ QUOTE ]

I broke the factory 4.10s and a set of 4.10 Precisions. The second set was set up by pros and both had good looking patterns even after they broke. It wasn't catastrophic failure, but there were a whole lot of teeth with the heels busted off of them, it was pretty obvious by the fracture line that they were just overloaded. The shop that put in the second set said that the first set was broken from being overloaded, and that they would not cover breakage on the second set under warranty since the tires were too big, but they probably say that about any truck with 38s.

I agree, for all around trucks, 35"-36" tires are tough to beat. The radials last alright, perform well on and off road, and get you over/through some decent stuff. Getting much bigger than that and you have to make some more serious compromises.

[/ QUOTE ] Well I'm going too get the 36" Ground Hawg's. Maybe in a few years I'll find me a D60, but then again, maybe I'll be happy with the 36's. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Do you realy believe that? Comparing axles to an eng is like apples/oranges. They see different stresses and do diff things. Your comment was so bizzare I don't even know what to do w/ it.

no but i assume when someone has 8000 posts and have been
around for 5 years that they already know about dana 60 axles, he wasnt asking about them, he was asking about dana 44s , plain and simple, but he should have known about that to, i guess i got caught up in the middle of
typical childish nonesense, /forums/images/graemlins/thinking.gif

You'd think that, wouldn't you? That's why this got out of hand so fast.

[/ QUOTE ] You know, not everyone reads every thread in every forum. Also not every question is answered in past threads. Whats the big deal if I have a question about something even though I've been registered for over a year, and have a fairly high post count. I'm sorry, but I don't know it all like some people think they do. /forums/images/graemlins/thinking.gif
