Dana 44 standard rotation 3.42 rato.. Pros and cons??

there is no pros and cons of certain gear rations. It's whether you need that ration or not, done, run it. :)

my rear end is geared in 3.42 but i am having problems finding a Dana 44 standard rotation 3.42 ring and pinion gear set for the front

I am running 3:42's in my 10 bolt, with SM465 and 35 inch tires. It's not too bad, but on the edge. With an automatic it would probably be worse.

but dana-spicer and several aftermarket companies use to ... if i can find someone that has changed it out of an older axle

they also came in 77, 78, 79 and 80 suburbans.. were an option on the K10 and K20 for those years too

I've never heard of 3.42's in a D44.

That listing for 77-80 Chevy's having 3.42's are likely for 10 bolt equipped trucks.

Stupid question...why are you set on the D44? Assuming this is a '73-87(91) Chev truck, a 10 bolt is no better or worse than a D44, and the 3.42 ratio is pretty common in the 10 bolts.

As Chris said, without some facts on your application pretty tough to say if 3.42 is a decent choice.

I have 2 10 bolt front axles in the backyard.. do not feel like converting them to driver's side drop.

sounds like a fun truck too

Your saving grace is that granny first gear and no OD. An automatic, even a 700 which has a better first gear than a 350 or 400, would definitely be worse off.

Yeah, I hope to regear someday. On the street I can still take off in first no problem. Granny is still too low, I have to shift halfway across the intersection. lol.
