Searched for chromoly shafts, since that seems to be the weakpoint on the d44. I wanted to go d60, but I don't know much about the d44, and much less about the 60. I already have points picked out for hydro assist and also have the nuckle already tapped for crossover steering. Parts fr the d44 seem to be a dime a dozen, and from what I hear it is lighter? Are the shafts the current weak point? If I replace those, (which I haven't found d44 chromoly's yet) where does the weakpoint move to? I'd like to have it be the smallest, cheapest, most non destructive on explosion / easiest to replace part as possible. I know that's a lot to ask, but If I go into it knowing something will break and concentrate on making that a specific part instead of trying to beef up everything I think I will be better off.

im running a 44 also...i know if i put chromos in my axle then im prolly gonna break u-joints,then if i put the u-joints without needle berings in them (300 bucks each i think)then i know im gonna break my pinion...what gear are you running??i have a 513 and im worried about my pinion...also if the truck is driven on the street with wide wheels or tires then you have to worry about wheel berings...

all in all after you do u-joints,and chromos then you have as much i that axle as you will in a 60 and if you are unhappy with it you willl never be able to sell it for what you have in it...

all in all-run the 44 till you have the money to buy a 60...
