Dana 60 - $100

how about the rear axle in my dads 89 tpi 305 powered formula 400

I cant find a pic that matches it online, I o****ed many times and it has 9 bolts on the dff cover:crazy: its driving me nuts

Are you talking about the borg warner 9bolt?

Yeah the rear end thats know as the "Australian Rear" to the camaro/trans am guys. Barely stronger than a 10bolt and hard to find parts for.

Btw you cant go by the stud/ubolt on the passenger side cause dodge dana 44's are like that.

hmm, well it is a factory disk rear and we cant even get the right pads for it either..

freaking weird

The borg warner was used from '87-'89ish. '89 was a somewhat weird setup because it was the last year for the borg warner and the first year for the aluminum PBR calipers (which were much better than the previous units) and larger rotors. For pads, try a listing for a '90 or '91 model.

Well, I don't know how loud it is, but it was common for them to whine when new. There's a reason they only used them a few years:haha:

the 9 bolt is actually quite a bit stronger than the stock 10 bolt. using a 7.75in ring gear, closer spacing on the carrier bearings, and a stronger carrier. the 9 bolt has been known to hold up well behind moderately built big blocks.

i run the 9 bolt in my 89 IROC, and have another one from an 86 sitting on the back porch that im trying to figure out what to do with.

for parts, check out.....

and www.9bolt.com

dts also still sells 3.70 gears for the 3 series carrier.

cant say as ive ever had problems getting parts for the brakes..... time for a new parts guy???

Im guessing you were asking me ;)

no i am not a member of TGO, although they are an awesome resource. I am a huge Camaro head, owned both an 89 IROC and an 89 RS at the same time... until the RS died, well, was killed by a deer and a short off road trip ;)

my uncle also drag raced a 69 ZL1 while i was growing up. and im currently assembling the pieces to build a modern, one piece rear seal 302 small block for my IROC, using an R code vortec block and heads, and the crank and rods from an L99 small block.

im kinda the resident third gen expert in the automotiveforums camaro section, and was a moderator for a fair chunk of time until i was swamped with real life and didnt have time anymore.
