Do I need to install these?

If I don't have to, what are the pro's & con's of having them vs. not having them?

well, I had to remove them because rocks and mud would wedge in there and scrape the rotors making an awful screeching sound. You can simply remove them and be good. I really see no reason to put them back on but if you do install them at least cut the bottom of them so there is no mud trap anymore.

what are those. ?

up here in the salt belt thay are long gone. or barly left and get removed and tossed .

What 'n the hell are those things:p:

No needs, toss 'em

Sweet thanks guys. I was planning on tossing due to mud and chit, just figured I would check with the crew. Thanks again!

I had the flange left on mine, most of the dust shield was rusted away, or ripped off.

And not meaning to hijack, but maybe this would be useful in this thread:

What about the inner dust cover between the spindle and caliper bracket?
Mine are rusty in this location too. I see they cover the nuts to the spindle from the outside, but again, any use in keeping them on there? I guess they would clean up ok with a blasting, but if not needed I'll just leave em off.

i think thats a hub seal protecor, id keep that.

and homobird00, the gray k30 had the dust shields that were still gold and shiny on the inside.
so i tossed em.

Dust shield...

pros - less dust

cons - more dust

:D

Necessary.. nope. I would only keep them if you have rims you want to keep nice and pretty, dust free.

Well I think they have them on there for road use. Hot rotors+ cold water splashing= warped rotors. Other than that I don't think they're needed.
