dana 60 ff rear vs 14 bolt ?

i am going to be buying a dana 60 rear ff tomorrow out of a 3/4 ton chev has 3/54 gears and everything else is unknown . how much less strong than a 14 bolt is it ?? im ONLY refering to the axle shatfts only thats all im going to be using ...hopfully thanks -Andy

dunno if you pplan on locking it up or not but a detroit for a 14ff is much much cheaper, as for the strength issues. They are minimal,

Its less strong enough that the 14FF and D70 are better in comparision than a D60 and 14FF.

9.75" ring gear compared to 10.5" and the 1.5" shafts on the 14FF are evidence enough. The D60 uses what, 1.31" shafts?

I've heard of more breakage on the D60 shafts than the 14FF.

Guess if you want to spend the money on a rear axle thats weaker than the 14FF...... /forums/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif

all im going to be using is the axle shafts themselves the ff ones .would a chev 3/4 ton came with a 60 or 70 ? i dont know the year . yeah the 14 FF has 1.5 shafts AT THE SPLINES THE REST IS 1.31 . the reason i am asking is cuz i may use dana 60 parts to convert my 12 bolt to 8 lug cuz it is complete and ill be able to torch off the spindles my self /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Why not just put a 14 Bolt FF back there and be done with it ?????

uhm, no, the whole shaft is 1.5 inches.

long story but ill try and shorten it . i like my ground clearance . i dont like the fact of how much i spent on that axle already to go and throw it away . it has the gears i want ,the locker i want . i can do the conversion cheap by myself , save the respline which is like 100$ .
im impatient .and i like to be different . i like to go fast , i have a 305 .it has held up extremely well so far . i think thats about it .... /forums/images/graemlins/eek.gif not too short ... /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

good , i wont be using that , just the axle shafts /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif maybe ....unless the 14ff shafts will fit the d60 hubs ...anyhow if i havent busted the 12 bolt so far witha warn ff kit and alloy shafts i should be ok? holy crap cunfusion must go to bed ...
