I am soon getting a dana 60 for my truck, :woot:and was wondering which locker to buy for it? Iv heard lock rights are good and fairly cheap. What do you guys think?

than get a spool if there's such a think for the front D60
or weld the spiders
only time you'll ever use the diff is in 4wd with the hubs locked
if you want to lock it, mine as well spool it, you can't unlock either anyway
IMO but I don't know much

Thanks for the info, i really want some feedback on the lockright, alot of people say they suck for all axles except the front 60 for some reason?

I've gotta Detroit f & r in my 14/60...I wouldn't spool or weld the front unless it's a trailered rig but also because u have no way to unlock the front...

huh? how do you unlock a detroit? :D
and I prolly wouldn't weld the front either, unless I only 4wd offroad. Throw it back into 2wd, and who cares. But I have no reason (here) to ever put it in 4wd on the road.

A spool and a ''locker'' are very different things. A spool has literally NO give while a detroit will give a little making turning possible. Hence why a detroit is actually streetable over a spool where the lack of give would just chew up your gears and tires in a new york minute.

lots of guys on here in the past before thay all went hard core run the lock rights on the 60 front. lots with 38-40" tires on average with no problems.

i my self went 1 better. if installin 1 time and want the best go arb air locker. now i can have 1-2-3-4 wheel drive as runnin 1 on each axle when the truck gets done. so in the snow i will have better options. or tight turns can be made unlocked front sometimes. also if runnin tripple stick or twin stick on the tcase then can do front wheel drive better on trail turns.

The lockrite works fine. I have one in my 44 and It works awesome. there is a guy on here that has a lunch box in his 60front and its been in there for almost 6yrs with no issues and he is not nice on his stuff at all. also we drive our Rigs everywhere and no issues. obviously itkind of sucks on a snowy road (hwy) but still great working locker.
Ive seen his truck on everything from mud and sand to ice on a lake to payvment and narley rocks. hes not on here that often. I'll see if I can get him to jump on here.
also ck with Stephen Watson on the LOCKERS anyof them you choose and see what he can come up with for ya. both on price and info. They run a ARB so he would even have real world info on that. good luck

What gotblazer said...with a spool/welded gears everything will b turning like it is engaged & u will have very little turning ability...only difference is it wont have power goin to it...any type of locker up front that is engaged will cause steering difficulties unless ur steering has been upgraded...I personally would run sum sort of arb/ox type locker that u can disengage but still leave it in 4wd...

Mine 60 is welded and I run a detroit in the rear. The only difference I can see with welded is you don't get the detroit shuffle when going from a coast condition to a powered condition.

Turning is no issue on the road since the hubs are unlocked and I am in 2wd. In 4wd on the other hand it is a beast, I have hydro and I can turn the wheels but they have too much traction on pavement and the truck does not like to turn.

I will most likely swap to a spool front and ARB rear when it goes offroad only and run drive slugs. I will keep the welded front until it breaks though it was cheap and I have it.:D

Dik

i'll be going with an ox locker for the front once I have the cash... selectable and super strong. with no air tanks or pumps to deal with but pricey at 1100...

im the first to say spool the rear, but NOT the front, ever. screw that.

i have a lockrite in my 60, and im pretty happy with it. 3 years with 42s and no problems. i dont beat it hard, but i have lots of low range (4:1) and no breakage. i paid $305 shipped.

i have stock 30 spline outers, and i would be pretty pissed if i snapped one and it lunched a $600 detroit. i wouldnt be so upset over a broken $300 lockrite. but thats just my thinking.

I run a Lock-right in my D60. Don't have a ton of power but use it pretty hard and it's held up for over 7 years now with 38's and then 39.5" TSL's. It does unlock when off-road when you are doing an easy turn, and of course you can shift into 2wd and have no effects on the trail (we have lots of non-difficult but tight areas on the trail). A couple guys run either a spool or welded front diff but also have twin sticks so they can run in 2wd low range and minimize the issues with steering on the trail.

Maybe I've been lucky but have broken a stock neck-down inner and 2 stubs with no issues with the Lock-right. A friend with 42's and a built big-block did break a Lock-right, but when I say break it just wouldn't always lock in going forward.

Thanks for all the feedback guys, i think i will go with the lockright, im looking forward to getting the locked 60 in my truck, then i will try to tackle airplane hill and the crushers haha.

i have the lockrite in my d60 for 3 yrs now-454/4 speed and 44s-with no issues to it.i do need to up grade my stub shafts.

Ya an upgrade might be in order with a big block and 44's lol, you could get those long feilds or whatever they are called, heard they are darn near indestrucable.

For the front axle I like to be able to run an open diff in tight corners, and for use in snow.
So I vote for an selectable one, like an ARB, Ox-locker or E-locker.
