Dana 60 locker???

Ya Fred iv been threw your build and it seems a selectable would be perfect for you seeing as how oftenyou get snow, but here in oregon we really dont see much snow except in the cascade range, and im dont know of any ohv parks or places to wheel, somy truck usally gets abused on the rocks or in the mud.

I welded my 60... Even with full hydro it doesn't like to turn on pavement in 4wd... No issues on the trails... My 14b is also welded... Cheap and easy...

Lockrite in the 60 for several years, been holding up fine, but planning to weld it eventually.

Another lock-rite here. 39.5x15s no problems. Less than an hour to install in the driveway, couldn't be happier with it.

ever heard of tsf? off hwy 6?

sorry for the hijack

huh? how do you unlock a detroit? :D

You don't need to, it unlocks itself every time you turn (unless you are under a lot of power and spinning the inside tire).

I have a detroit in the front and back, and I would never put a spool in the front. With a spool its locked solid and turning is a chore. With the detroit, turning is fine most of the time. Under power it does have some torque steer. And ocassionally when you turn and the it get's bound up and won't turn because you are turning against it, but that's better than a spool that would be like that all the time. And unless you plan in advance a selectable may be bound up at that point too. I've driven welded diffs and spools and I prefer the detroit hands down.

There is also a new locker available for the D60. It's called the Spartan locker. It's a lunchbox style like the lock-rite. I've read a lot of good reviews on other boards. Made by US Gear and most I've seen for sale in the $320 range, I'm sure with shopping around you could find a good deal with an online discount code or something.

I personally have an ARB and love being able to flip a switch and have an open or locked diff, but if I did it again I would pick one of these up for the shear KISS method and A LOT less cost.

I just bought the spartan, cant attest to its reliability, but I did a lot of research and the guys that do run one say its just as strong as a lockrite. I got it for less than 300 shipped, go to pirate4x4.com, there is a guy there selling em for a good price.

I'm not a big fan of selectable lockers (ARB, OX, ECTED, etc...). First, they are more expensive. And second, I've seen a lot in person as several rigs in our club have all of the above and all have had issues regarding getting them to lock. There is nothing like getting half way into a difficult trail and then being stuck with an open diff. And to be honest, I've never seen any obvious advantages to having a selectable on the TRAIL. On a difficult obstacle where are spinning tires and under power there is no difference in how it works as compared to a Detroit or Lock-right. On easy but just tight and twisty dirt trails I've followed rigs with selectables front and rear in smaller and shorter vehicles...rare that they can make a turn in a single shot and I can't (granted, the Sami's and Willy's have an advantage but it's not because of the lockers).

Some specific examples of rigs in our club.

CJ-7 w/ ARB's front and rear - loses one or both lockers about every 3rd trip

TJ w/ ARB's front and rear - loses one or both lockers almost every trip

YJ w/ front Ox - engages about 1/2 the time at obstacles, usually has to mess with it each time or readjust the cable. If the trail is not too bad he doesn't mess with it and struggles without.

TJ w/ Ox front and rear - same as above. Typically he just gets the rear locked in and leaves it so he doesn't have to mess with it.

TJ w/ ECTED rear - typically just locks it in at the trail head and leaves it alone because it will only engage about 1/2 the time also.

good info. but big question is what axles are thay running ?

what size tires ?

what gears?

some of this will play a factor in reliability.
