I picked up a Dana 60 for my powerstroke project last weekend. It needs a little work but for $280 I’m not complaining. It’s a mid 90s ball joint, high pinion 60, it’ll bolt right in on my ford with no modifications. It does however need gears, which leads me to my questions.

Are all ford 60 gears the same? Will gears from a king pin axle work in a ball joint axle?

I’m guessing they’re all the same, pre-superduty.

I’m going from 4.88 to 4.10 to match my rear end, I know I’ll need a different carrier. But figured I’d ask about gear compatability in case I come across a set of used oem gears.

if I recall there is no carrier split on ford hp . . . . but I might be wrong with the heat today .:weld: :zombie18::angry1:

Carrier split is between 4.10 and 4.30 but most aftermarket gears are the thick type that use a 4.10 carrier. OEM gears are usually thin so 4.30, 4.88 or 5.38 would use the 4.30-7.17 carrier. Newer OEM high pinion gears use a crush sleeve but crush sleeve eliminators are available. No difference between king pin and ball joint. Just standard cut or reverse cut. Some of the newer OEM gears are 10" instead of 9.75" but will work in the older housings.

What would you guys pay for a set of used OEM 4.10s for a 60? A friend of mine has a set he doesn’t need, I figured I’d offer him $100 for them. Is that reasonable?

A little high for around here. Used gears pull 50-75 max here. Genuine Spicer and a buddy, I'd have no trouble paying 100 for known good parts.
