Dana 60 rear power-lock, 4.56's

Additives are a debated subject sometimes . Some are made to help the frictions slip. While this seems to against the grain of locking them up for traction it can actually help certain type of clutches live longer so that they do not wear out imediately when they do slip. Some folks put ATF in agressive clutch type diff's to help the grip.

As for the bolt retention issue some folks feel that the gears breaking under power causes the case to spread apart and strip out the bolts ( or cause them to loosen up ). My opinion on this is that the spiders sometimes break because the case has spread due to the bolts backing off/loosening on thier own.
A lot of times the retaining bolts may have been over torqued , under torqued , or even mis-applied thread locker was used. The sled puller crowd breaks Dana 80 side gears fairly requently and they are similar size to Dana 60 P/L gears/retaining bolts and have no real problem with the case bolts coming loose.
Safety wiring is a great idea but I do not think it is needed. Proper bolt tension and thred locker should do the trick.

Nobody has touched on this yet....

See if a 35-spline shaft will fit in the diff case before you shell out for side gears. The last 16-spline P/L I had hands on wouldn't take them. :(

Nice catch ! Is there enough meat on the journals to bore them out ? I would assume that it could be done since the carrier bearing are the same inner diameter.
Anyone done this before ?

I dunno. I just checked the spare 16s open I have in the garage - that case will take a 35s no problem. (1.7xx" bore)

Now I wonder if i remember wrong.... Worth a check anyways ;)

Hmmm.. Worth a look to make sure. Well I dont plan on doing any tractor pulls so I doubt I'll break this. What are the tourqe specs for the case bolts.

FWIW, I have a buddy who put a 16-spline P/L & 4.10s in his '79 F250 short crew. NP435/400ci, 33's, and the truck weighs 7000lbs. So far its lasted longer than the 30-spline shaft he snapped.

Trac lok and Powr lok are 2 different limited slips.

Trac loks are what come in jeeps, and dodges, 2 spider gears, always wear out clutches, 1 piece carrier.

Poer loks have a 2 piece carrier, only for Dana axles, 4 spider gears.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I think the Trac Loks were also available for the D60. I'm pretty sure that's what I got in my front end (two pinion not four). I haven't worn it out yet, although this has been a sucky winter and I haven't locked my hubs enough to mention it :(
