I use to have a 79 with a D60. I am pretty sure that it had the 6 pin spindle nut (because I bought the socket) My 87 has a 4 pin but its sligtly bigger than say a D44/10B 4 pin nut. My internal style 4 pin socket would not work on it and my external 4 pin BARELY worked. When did they change it exactly?

I have come accross this also. IIRC the 14ff uses the 4 external pins and the hub socket will fit on the D60 4 pin nut also.

I bought a 6 pin for my D60 back in the day, but found out I could have just changed the spindle nuts on the 60 and used the same socket front and rear??

ive always used a 6 pin for my 14bff and any 60s ive worked on...maybe some day i can be lucky enough to get a 60...sigh:D

hmm my heavy 14 boltFF (not a 3/4 14FF) uses the 6 pin nut. I have some 3/4FF's kicking around here. Never had a reason to pull them down.

My 60 and 14 both use 6 slot nuts, and just to kick the frustration up a notch, the also make hex nuts for them:mad: ask me how I know:haha::haha:

dana 60 = first few years 6 slot with bend over lock tabs. then thay went newer 4 slot with the inner nut having the pin to index to the lock washer holes.

14 bolts = old school had 6 slot with bend over lock tabs. then thay went to fat single nut with square lock pin and little spring clip to hold in place. still 6 slot.

all 14ff and 60s from what i have read use same thread/size spindle threads. so nuts will swap back and forth.

i have used 14ff rear socket on 6 slot 60 nuts and vise versa with tine filing of notches on tool.

when buying sockets for 4 slot style watch out for the cheepys. thay are to thick or not cut out for the inner nut lock pin. and will snap it off on you. i found out the hard way .
