I'm starting a new project and I'm concerned about if the D60 will hold up to the weight of the engine I'm swapping in.
The project- I want to put a 1500lb engine that holds 30 quarts of oil in a 84 Chevy dually with 8 to 10 lug adapters, 22.5's and 40 inch rubber. Also there will be a heavy custom bumper on the front.
I've done a little research on this and found that the 60 is rated for 4500lbs, but I didn't find anything on if it differs from the srw to the drw axles. I'm considering trussing the axle right from the start too.

Is it going to eat bearings cause all the weight is so far out on the end of the hub?
Are the king pins and bearings in the knuckles going to hold up?

Just curious, but why a dt466? other than the fact that they are relatively easy to work on, what is the advantage? I work on these engines often and
get annoyed with them and their stupid injector o rings failing all the time. To answer your question though, i know d60s are tough, but i would be hesitant to put all that weight with big rig tires and heavy ass motor on a stock d60 but it def. would be different! good luck

I originally wanted to run a 6v-53t Detroit in the the truck but I haven't been able to find one locally without buying the whole truck and that's out of my budget. The Dt466 is going to be cheep to free from a friend that owns a towing yard, pus it comes with a trans. I was a little hesitant about this motor, mostly because its so closely associated with the blue oval of crap but when he said he mite just give it to me I couldn't resist.

Well i cant argue with u there. I would take it if it were free too, even if i didnt have a truck to put it in. oh, and blue oval piece of crap---lol.

Another plus to it is I've read a bunch of articles about building power out of them and it seems relatively easy. I would love to do the 530 piston and sleeve swap on it.:D

I like the slightly older internationals b/c of the more "mechanical" style things, but yes the dt466 could easily be built without the $$$ out of ur wallet unlike some of the other options. Even a CAT c-7 or c-9 would be cool, but ur talking more $$ (that is if ur a caterpillar guy)

I'd love to have a Caterpillar under the hood, I've looked into that too, that fun cost way way to many fun tokens for me to play. I believe the Dt is a late 80's mechanical but I don't know what year exactly yet.

here is a big motor build for ya .

and i just dont get the semi tire thing . why not just do some 19.5 drw rims off bread trucks for bolt on and go . 4" lift and the 8r19.5 look real good .

and if me and that kind of weight truss it to be safe and mabye some aftermaket knuckles and spindles . but then you still got same bearing size you cant get around .

all the weight of the semi truck tires and rims is whats killing your front end .

and ditch the plastic / nylon upper king pin bushings for the bronze / ampco upgrades .

Thanks, I've read that build and enjoyed it. As for the 22.5's I like them and I already have them. I have thought about running a smaller tire on the wheels I have but that's not the look I want.
Will the bronze kingpin bushing be ok for daily driving? I know nothing about them but I know what they are.

lots of guys report fine for street .

and lots use in off road racing like king of the hammers and no problems with them .
