What is, if any the difference between a chevy and a dodge dana 60 .They look identicle. Just got a free dodge 60 and would like to konw if it is a bolt and go for a k5. Thanks in advants. Shoe 81

Dodge D60 are a little different width but people have used them. IIRC the dodge version is narrower by about an inch or less. Someone will chime in with the details soon i'm sure.

the spring perches are 1/2 inch narrower and no dont just squeeze it in.

the shock mounts are a little different, but not a big deal.

some older ones have huge external hubs or drive flanges, but the later ones are just liek chevy. one axle shaft is slightly shorter, which narrows the whole axle by a little bit. not much to be worried about.

for the most part its easy to swap in just not as easy as a chevrolet 60.

Actually the Dodge is 1/2" wider. Verified by experience and double checked via the Dana 60 bible on Pirate.

I have always read narrower but recently one of the guys at the shop installed a Dodge 60 in his and we discovered this the hard way. Our width correction was to be a trimmed down bushing from his lift springs on one side and make up the difference with a heavy washer on the other side. This would move the springs .25" per side in. When we assembled things we were way off and had to do some investigating. Like I said, I have always read narrower but this wasn't the case.

You can force the springs in place, it may not be good for them but I have put in 5 dodge 60s in Chevys and 4 of them went in with no problem. just one guy pushing in on the leaf to get it in the center pin hole on the perch.

The other one we used the bushing trick, they all seemed to work about the same.

Watch out for the older ones with the external hubs(the locking hub bolts on) you will need a whole new hub assembly to put the internal hubs on (ones that don't bolt on)

Thanks guys. I have a dodge d60 for sale and very little experience with the dodge d60 and someone told me it was not near as good as the chev d60. So i now i know. Shoe81
