Has anyone seen the August Petersen's 4wheel&off road mag . Dynatrac is now making a Dana 80 front axle . This thing is huge! The 40-spline axleshaft is 1.71-inches in dia . The ring gear is 11 1/2 inch dia . No weight or price , but I bet they both are high!!

and everyone thinks the 14 bolt draggs its ass on the ground...

You can buy a 14b for $100 . I bet this thing goes for $3000-$4000

The Dana 80 they build is mainly for Front axles to my knowledge they dont make a 14 bolt front. I know some one on here has one that WMS built but it doesn't have shafts in it or a driveshaft.:D

As far as price they wanted $4500 for a ball joint dana 60 with a detroit and 5.13s:eek1: I would hate to see the sticker for that bad boy my guess would be 7-8K.

you can already get those same 40 spline shafts for a bunch of other axles, so this isn't really "new and innovative." i'm sure a ton of mall crawlers will be all over it.

I saw it. It looks pretty impressive, but like you said.. it probably cost more than my k5 and all the upgrades combined. It looks plenty beefy though.

not sure why this would be a good upgrade for most people. How many D60 ring gear failures do you hear about? They happen, but they are pretty dang rare assuming the r&p are properly set up and the beast has oil in it. IMO 9.75" is big enough on a ring gear. I wouldn't mind having a 1.71" 40 spline D60... which has been done... so don't see much need in a D80 front.

I hear you both. I'd never think of getting one since my D60 w/ 35spl 4340 inners & stubs & longfeilds will probably be all I ever need. The D80 would be more overkill than I could ever justify. Especially for what I know they'll probably be charging for it.

I still think it's pretty sweet though.. for those who might need it, and have the pockets deep enough to afford it without even batting an eye.

I assume the 40 spline 60 you are reffering to is camo's from pirate? Didnt he spend like $10k per axle once it was all said and done?

yes, but since then a 40-spline detroit and 40 spline shafts have become more wide-spread. The first guy to do something always spends a fortune. ;) :thumb: I'm sure if you called Dynatrac and ordered a D60 you could get a blingin' 40 spline one... and it'd be less than the land anchor D80.

(southern accent)well god damn, i bet dem duke boys cant even snap dem axels:eek1:

bah, gimme Ouversons 2" shafted junk. :thumb: When is Longfield gonna release his Rocky-Birf? :thumb:

what is the front axle that chevy runs in its medium duty 4x4 work trucks.? the ones that kinda look like cxt or whatever there called. it looks pretty beefy and alot bigger then a d60.

Those are called Kodiaks. I don't know what it is in the front thats a good question. But it is WAAAAY wider than any pickup truck diff.
