Every truck I buy has working windows ...for about 6 months to a year. I'm hitting the local pick n pull Saturday to get a manual window regulator. I'm tired of f'n with them. Might just do the tailgate too.

I guess it just depends. I was inside my door the other day and the original 32 year old motor is in there. They all still work, albeit a little more slowly in winter.

I know how you feel.....but I'm going to stay with the electric. I'm on motor #3 for the tailgate motor. Meaning I've been to O'reillys 3 times in less than 48 hours. Made in Mexico.

Good luck with the transition to manual.

Have you tried the relay mod? Sometimes it's not just the motors, but the ancient door switches. With good voltage, even the cheap motors usually last a long time.

If you're sure there is good voltage to the motor, you can open it up and bypass the safety. It's a PTC or some kind of thermal breaker. So if someone's neck is in the window or something it will stop (I always figured I would stop pushing the button if my arm was rolled up in the window, but maybe that's just me.) Sometimes the resistance gets high as they age and sometimes they just fail open, so you think the motor is dead. Soldering across that thing will make the motor faster than ever.

I have hooked the motor up to the battery, with the cable attached, and I can hold the cable between my fingers and keep it from turning on the down setting. It's very strong on the up setting and can't keep it from spinning. 3 motors in a row that did this. One of the new/remanufactured motors was strong on the down but lost its strength after about three or four runs. I have the relays installed and wired.

It's just a royal pita for me to change the motors...I have 19" forearms and have to stuff my arm in to reach the fasteners and connections. By the time I finish it looks like I tried to give a bath to a bobcat...

I can live with a manual drivers window. I've been reading up on the relay mod. May give it a go.

I won't be able to tell how well the relays work until I get a good working motor.

There is nothing wrong with manual windows. I don't have 19" forearms but I do get a little scraping because of the room. I just keep fixing and upgrading and hope that all the planets line up and everything will work as it should or better.

I see LMC truck now has the window relay mod in a kit...clicky

Look no further! A lifetime warranty on a direct drive regulator. Updated GM replacement part that deletes the cable and the original jack screw! Dusty at Nu-Relics (https://www.nu-relics.com/Default.asp) made it for another guy I saw on YouTube, so I’m guinea pig #2. If it breaks: he’ll fix it for life. I’m amazed, if you can’t tell! Nu-relics is famous for their door replacement kits, solid reputation.
