Dare I say it...Another 72 K5 build! The Bubba build - getting back into it

I'd say whatever you do, go for reliability and making both vehicles fun to drive. Not getting caught up in all of our biases over BB or LS swapping everything is key. Anything you can swap in, you can swap back out at some later point if you change your mind. Like Zim said, think about what you want to do with both vehicles, then drop something in that will make that easy and fun to do then go have fun with them.

Having monster power is fun, but if you make the car scary to drive, and you have to build a cage you aren't ready to tackle for the blazer, whats the point? What will make both fun now? It's a lot more fun working on vehicles that you can take out for a spin between projects imo.

If you don't have room for the stuff, then I guess its pointless, but you really don't need much for tools other than grinders and the bender as Greg said.

Although for $50 the HF notcher can save lots of time...

Ive never ridden in a non caged first gen. Is it REALLY that bad if your not throttle smashing?

My only worry about the manual bender is where/how to mount it. We rent this house (huge source of my frustration), so I'm not sure on drilling into the concrete and whatnot. Any ideas on that? I'd love to do the work myself.

The extra room the hydro conversion takes up is small. I realize your gonna need a compressor. You can manually pump the bottle jack but that takes FOREVER. compressor can be mounted on a shelf out of the way.

You do not need a tubing notcher but it also takes up very little room. It's basically an oversized clamp.

Mount the base to some kind of really long box tubing, or some other method that allows you to "extend" the fixturing well-away from the base of the bender (where you'd normally be drilling concrete holes). Those long outriggers could then be attached to a sidewall or you could park your truck tires on top of them to hold them from moving when you did your bending.

Heck, you might even be able to come up with some kind of receiver mount hitch setup that could work!!! You'd need a plan it out so that the tubing could rotate around properly, but maybe?

Are you sure the vettes motor specs are accurate? I think i would confirm the internals first. But if you do believe thats the case I would just run some race gas until the end of summer. How much you going to drive it really? Get the cage done over the summer along with trying to find an 8.1. Then next autumn tear them both down and have at them! Tough choices but I say drive the vette before tring to rush and get it running,

Well the vette is a good ways from driveable, so that's why I'm trying to sort it out now. I'll be getting a build sheet from the guy Saturday hopefully, so that'll confirm or deny my worries.

What in the hell is going on in here????

A guy comes in to town from some manly snow camping for supplies and he stumbles across this crap?

My truck has too much power.....I don't have tools....I can't do it....

This coming from one of my oldest build buddies that built his entire truck in a carport with some 6 mil as a back drop for a painting booth????

I can't believe that you have went the way of the ghey... Damn Man.

You should just sell that cool 1st gen and pick up an 81, or something. You know, something that's reliable. Something that doesn't require you to melt molten metal together... PPffff the humanity.....

I hope shit gets sorted out by the time I get back and there is a nice 502 crate motor, a bender, die, compressor and some flap wheels heading your way by Sunday night.

Here is your alternative...
