Dare I say it...Another 72 K5 build! The Bubba build - getting back into it

BTW, I'm about 8 beers in now working on no lunch, so I'm a wee bit wrecked...Playin it cool:whistle:

Awesome....:haha:

I think you're lite on the count though. I talked to ya 5 1/2 hours ago and you were on number three.. :haha:

By the way, nice work on the fender. You're lines are looking very nice.:waytogo:

I've been lazy the past couple days... I did get out there today after work and did a bit more thinking/planning and looking. I lucked out for once: decided to open up the box with the new wiring harness in it just to look around and noticed the paper template for enlarging the stock hole in the firewall for the fuse panel. Glad I didn't find that AFTER painting the firewall (which should be here in a week or so):eek1:. I would have been PO'd for sure.
After looking around a bit I decided to trim the front of the fenders a bit. The PO had cut the fangs off already but I rounded the lower section to even up the look a bit. Did a small pie slice at the wheel well and then trimmed maybe 3/8" off the bottom. I think it turned out pretty nice. Kinda hard to tell in the pic with it bare metal, it looks better in person. It looks wavy at the bottom in the pic for some reason.

I've realized I need to add a shim or two under the driver's side #1 body mount, the gap is a little big at the bottom of the door/fender gap. Should be able to do that tomorrow. Then a few more tweaks and trimming the drivers side fender and I should be able to pull them back off and clean them up/paint the insides. I still need to strip the rest of the rear 1/4's and figure out how far I'm going to go with the rear floor... Then some filler and block sanding!:woot: I'm really starting to get excited about how it's turning out. The doors open so nice:pimp: Not too long before I'm cruising it to the beach:D

awesome man! you talking about how sweet the doors open is making me jealous. I'm getting sick of being the only one that knows how to open my passenger door. lol

That was what sparked the fire that turned into all this for me!

Didn't get nearly as much done today as I had intended due to multiple visitors and too many beers:D That being said I made some good progress. I got the doors/fenders where I wanted them. Picked up some new mirrors at O'reilly's for $18 a piece. Not bad I think. They look pretty good, hopefully I can see out of them. Then I peeled the fenders again and stripped the drivers side. Found a bit of filler that I was able to hammer/dolly the low spots out. Filled the original trim holes that had been bondo'd with weld. Got the inside sanded and ready for primer. That was about it other than some more thinking/planning. If I'm not careful I'm actually going to finish this thing soon:eek1:

thats part of the reason I went with the ford mirrors. I wanted something I could mount higher up, so that I could see out of them better. hope those work out for you. :thumb:

Yeah, I was gonna try to make some and get a convex lens, but getting the materials i wanted out here was turning into a real PITA so I went with these for now. They look pretty good I think. Hopefully I can see out of them and then I won't have to change them later on.

Thanks dude! That's the one thing I really DON'T like about GM stuff, all the shimming. I can't believe the amount of adjustment you can get out of all the panels on these things. Luckily one extra shim on the drivers #1 body mount took care of it for me. I guess I just have to be super careful putting everything back on after painting the jambs/pillars/interior. I'm sure there will be some minor touching-up too:doah:

Thanks dude. As for the body monts, I assume you want to change the rubber mounts? If so, the easiest way is to loosen all the hardware, the change one side at a time.

I had to cut some of mine. used the edge of my angle grinder and made + sign in the bolt head then an x until the head came off and the bolt fell thru.

Torch, air chisel, impact, just some of the methods I have heard of.

Is it perfect? Hell no. Are there imperfections? You betcha. Am I pleased with the result, proud that I have never done bodywork or painted a car before in my life? Hells yeah:woot:

I sprayed the last couple coats yesterday. I'm headed to Maui for the weekend so I won't be tempted to touch it/screw it up until it's sat for 3 days:rolleyes:

Theres some decent orange peel. I couldn't get a good shot without too much glare making it look awful or visa-versa.... It should cut down with some wet sanding and buffing pretty well I would think. Let me know your thoughts!

I'm not sure why the colors are so screwed up in the pics. When we get back I'll take some pics with my real camera. It's bright red if you couldn't tell. Not pink:doah::haha:

Actually it's the landlord's new pink driveway....

WIN!

:usaflag:

Yeah, about that... I wetted the floor while apraying, I'm surprised it was that bad. But most of it came up today with simple green and scrubbing. I'm gonna get some laquer thinner and hit it again. If that doesn't work maybe I'll paint it black...

Looks pretty good. Orange peel yes, but as you say it can be buffed out with some work...what kind of paint did you use? Man I love Red!!!!
