Dare I say it...Another 72 K5 build! The Bubba build - getting back into it

Well, we should find out exactly where we're going soon, but it should be somewhere in the midwest. We put in for Ft. Knox, KY, Ft. Leonardwood, MS, and Ft. Riley, KS so we'll see if we get any of those. We wanted somewhere in the middle of nowhere, or as close as possible. So at that rate, a drive to Michigan wouldn't be too bad from there:D

No, just the most recent one, with the starting frame of the tach. I'll see if I can throw it on youtube and embed it....

Ok I call first dibs in that case:thumb:

B fricken A!!!:thumb:

I should specify...They will move a set weight based on person in military + # of dependents. When we moved out here they gave us (I think) 10K some odd pounds of stuff, plus one vehicle. I shipped all my tools (pic of box tomorrow: a mac tech1000 that is overflowing and 2 side cabinets), all our household goods, and my motorcycle out here and we were like 2,000 lbs under our weight limit. I even sent the swampers household goods because the height of a "regular vehicle" has to be under 7', so I shipped it on the little rollers it's on now... I'm planning on bringing any steel I haven't used yet when we move too. Why scrap it when I don't have to???:woot:

Way to go Sean. :waytogo: Now we want to see some beach pics with the Blazer and hotties...

or just the hotties.. :D

Getting closer! I screwed around with the dash a bit this AM. It's got a new printed circuit in it, but it seems like something is effed up... I have good power to the plug, and good grounding in the dash but I can't get the lights to all work at the same time:dunno: I finally got the left blinker indicator to work, but nothing else is consistent. I know the headlight switch is good, and like I said it's getting power, just not going where it needs to in the gauge panel. (I hate wiring btw). So after wasting like an hour with that I moved on for now. Put in a new t-stat and jumpered the fans/relays to make sure it was all hooked up right, which it was. Also made sure my temp sender for the gauge was working, which it is. Mounted a coolant overflow and a new throttle return spring bracket. Jacked up the rear and mounted the swampers on the back. It's effin HUGE!!!! Then I put on my fancy schmancy new diff cover from Kert. Almost screwed up big time when I tightened down the bolt that holds the brake hose. Didn't realize the -an adapters on it were bigger than the block on the hose, and when it tightened down it stripped the right side one. Luckily it was fixable with my trusty tap and die set and snugged back up nice. Re-gravity bled the rears and haven't seen it leaking yet. We'll see tomorrow when I actually bleed the brakes.

Then I filled the rear diff, t-case and tranny with fluid. I filled up my clutch master and went to crack the line to let it gravity bleed and the whole top twisted off:doah: So I sucked the fluid back out (what hadn't dripped onto the floor yet) and moved on. Started throwing my crossover/highsteer stuff on that I bought from ssyork a while back. The right side rod end on the drag link had play but I thought it would be good. Nope, broke that while trying to de-adjust it:doah: It was then that I called it a day.

Ate an early dinner with the Mrs. who is working nights until Wednesday (has been all month) and then went to the Napa. They didn't have the clutch slave cylinder OR the tie rod. Went to O'Reilly's and they had the slave, but still no rod end. Turns out no one on the island has one, so I had to order it from amazon and pay extra for shipping to make sure it got here Thursday. I was really hoping to run it around the block tomorrow night... Oh well.

And with no further ado, some truck PRON!!! (with hottie!) For reference, she's 5'6". I swear I'm not compensating...

lol, I remember thinking that with mine. got all the lift put on it, but it was sitting low on jackstands for about a year, so I had no idea how tall it was actually going to be. of course with 44's, you're much taller than I am!!

oh, love the hottie pic, lol.
"hey honey, come stand over here."
"what for?"
"oh, no reason..."
/snap pic, post on the internet. :D

Hey now, she was informed:haha::haha:

So today was incredibly frustrating/unproductive.

Started by calling safelite to say WTF? and was told, I'm sorry sir, we're not sure what's going on. It show's available on the mainland but has missed our last two shipments. Apparently they spoke to a manager and it will leave tomorrow and hopefully be here late this week/early next week.

My front t-case flange got here last night, but there were no bolts in the box with it. So I started by going to the hardware store (who didn't have 12x1.75 bolts) so I drove around to Fastenal, got stuck in traffic, dealt with idiots, and wasted almost 3 hours start to finish to get $4 worth of bolts:doah: Get back home and go to throw in the flange and front shaft. Pull the yoke, forgetting that when full the gear lube level is higher than the seal. Proceeded to dump gear lube everywhere. Frantically grab the new flange to throw it in and it won't go on:confused: Put the old yoke on and went to get a bucket to catch the rest of the oil that was still leaking out. Tried like 3-4 more times with no luck. SO, I take a closer look at it and find some galling on a few of the splines. File them down, try again. Nope. By this time I'm fuming. Pull it down and do a side by side comparo with the yoke. It would start on, but stop very early on. When I just got it started it would rotate, but wobble like it was uneven. Everything "looks" the same, so I go to the box and grab a mic. As I look closer, the splines are shallower on one "side" vs the other. So I measure and sure enough, the one is .352" thick and the other is .378" So I got on the phone with Jess at HAD who said although uncommon, it's possible that I got a bad flange. I can't think of anything other than a bad example: it looks right to the eye, same spline count, seal fits over it, and the old yoke slides on and off like butter... So he comped it and said it's on the way.

On to headache 2: the drag link that I picked up is not long enough, so I'll have to call ORD tomorrow morning and order a longer one and hope they'll sell just that:doah:

Then I put the highsteer tie rods on, may as well right??? When turning they hit the spring plates I got from Kert, so I had to cut a bunch off the front of those:angry1:

Then I put the new clutch slave in. Actually that worked fine.

Then to double check my work yesterday I peaked at the rear brake hose. There was a slight drip, so I snugged up the lines a bit more and went to pump the pedal to see if it would leak. Hit the pedal and the PS res that was on the full side burps and pisses all over the floor! I clean that up, suck out some excess with the mityvac and go back to check the brake hose. At this point it looks good. Decide I'll start it up to put even more pressure on it just to be sure. I had left the key on, batt dead:haha: So I popped it on the charger and it fired up with like 1/2 a rotation:woot:

Everything else may be screwed up, but at least it runs! I gave up after that, couldn't take any more heartache today. I'll get the seats in and finalized tomorrow, finish up the cooling system and hopefully get to work on the bumpers. If I get all that done I may try to make the bracket for the WS frame to snap the soft top to.

Depending on what ORD says tomorrow I may ghetto rig the steering so I can at least cruise it around the block by the weekend...We'll see

mama said there'd be days like this...

it happens. some days just don't work out the way you planned. /sigh
