Dare I say it...Another 72 K5 build! The Bubba build - getting back into it

Guess it's been a while, eh fellas? I was reminded of this the other day and figured I should actually get on here and bring things somewhat up to speed.

Since my last post I put new leaf springs in from ORD, fixed the broken output on my transfer case, pulled the big block out of the blazer to put in the vette, put a 6.0 LS in the blazer, bought a camper to get ourselves and our 3 dogs and two cats across the country, moved to Washington state, shipped the blazer vette and subie out here, had the top on the blazer ruined by the truck driver, sold the subie, bought an 84 CJ7 with sbc in it, bought a house, built a deck and signed up for welding school. That's all  I was super busy in Alabama working at Ford (go figure), and worked on either the blazer or the vette on the weekends.

Figured I'd just photodump and go from there. These should be somewhat in order.

Vette as it sits currently. Not sure if we'll paint it or anything. It's a fuel injected big block driver at the moment. Little rough around the edges, but it's nasty with the 468 in there.

Built some sliders for the blazer in Alabama. Stiffened the thing up a TON! Still need a cage really badly. Hopefully that's soon.

I need to look through and find pictures of the LS swap. I didn't take many...I was in the zone working and realized after most of it was done. Runs great though. It's a 2003 LQ9 that's been rebuilt with a small cam in it. ~420 hp at the crank. LS3 throttle body. Throttle response is stupid. Overall I'm really happy with it. The big block used to use 1/8 tank minimum any time I'd start it, but this LS gets crazy good mileage. Unsure on numbers, but it's pretty darn efficient for a truck on 40's. Oh yeah, I sold the swampers and steelies and bought a set of h2's from Greg and put some pro comp 40's on it. The radials are so nice, I can't believe how smooth and quiet this thing drives now. And no more death wobble!

Forgot a couple. Here's some terrible shots of the new top. It has officially started raining in the PNW, and I didn't feel like moving Eric's suburban to take pics outside. Next time I drive it I'll grab some more. Softopper is nice, but wish I could have put that $1,100 towards a cage or something else...

Here's a few of the engine shenanigans

My DIY4x engine crossmember wouldn't clear, so I had to get a dirty dingo. I'll sell the old one to somebody for cheap if they need it. I have mounts for big block and small block...

Bought a wraptor kit from Kert. I still haven't put it on yet. The movers broke my welder, so we're still trying to get them to fix that.

Picked up some sweet door panels from Deuling. Made the truck way classier than it was.

That's all I can find now. I know I have others somewhere, but they're kind of all over the place. Switching phones always makes stuff weird.

If you've got some more details on your sliders I'd love to see it. As anyone that's been within 100' of me on the trail can attest, I could use some frame stiffening badly!

So when did the wheel/tire change happen?
Sold the swampers right before we left Alabama since it needed to be shipped on the rollers anyway (June), and bought the new tires after we got here and were somewhat settled in (July).
Yes! Nice update. The door panels look great! Where did you get the lq9 from? Welcome to the left coast.
Bought it from JustChevyTrucks on ebay. Could have done the swap much cheaper, but was worried about time. I knew we'd be moving this summer, so I didn't want to mess with trying to find anything that would actually be viable in Alabama. I definitely learned some stuff in my time down south! :haha: It needs the tune cleaned up, and I'm pretty sure it's programmed for an automatic because it stalls when I engine brake, but it runs great.

I used 2x4 1/4" for the main sliders and 1-3/4" 1/4" wall for the outriggers. Bought frame tie ins from somewhere (it'll come to me...) and cut/welded everything together. The rear most was the only hard part. Had to be angled upwards and the only decent place to land it was inside the spring hanger mount. I think I spent two days working on it. If I had appropriate height stands or some help it could have been done in a day. I think I had like $250 in the whole project.
