Its lighting up like if it har a short circuit, ill be checking it, but still whats it for>??

Good question. Mine lights up when the oil pressure is low. I always assumed this was the result of the engine swap. When I had an electrically heated choke, it was powered all the time the key was on. It would make sense if there was a thermal switch in the intake manifold which controlled power to the choke and that light, but I haven't ever seen it.

they were supposed to tell you when the choke was on kind of like an e-brake light. If its not going out chase the wires and find the short because I am pretty sure that open circuit=light off, closed = light on. I think, might be the reverse.

I know on my 80 camaro, the choke was wired to the oil pressure sender so that the choke woudl only get power if the engine was running and had oil pressure. This keeps it from heating up with the engine off and key in run. the oil light would come on if the fuse blew. Maybe its similar. Light on = no oilpressure, or blown fuse???? Might try checkign the fuses and seeing if the choke is operating properly.

Ill surely see it, i know its not hooked up to the oil pressure or anythin like that, maybe just a loose cable somwhere, thanks fot the help.

Same setup on the trucks. Oil pressure switch closes (sees oil pressure) and the choke gets voltage.

With the key on (run, not accessory IIRC), engine off, choke light should stay on.

It seems like a waste to heat that coil the whole time you are running, but I suppose that in the winter the carb could get cold enough on the highway to close the choke up again.

I tend to agree, especially with the cost of the choke coil. It's probably not drawing much juice, but it's still something. Easy solution: injection. :)
