i just got my vortec swap all buttoned up and now its time to buy some guages. I figured ill spend around 500 bucks on some nice gauges. Ive been looking into tuners and there about the same price plus they'll display what gauges would and more. Has anyone ever done this. Do you think its a good idea???

build a dash around an IPad and use real time software to read the sensors

how cool would that be :)

I have always thought about doing something like this on one of my car projects in the future. I was thinking of using a small computer like one of thoes cheap laptops. Some how getting a touch screen for them and remote mounting the screen from the rest of the computer.

That way i could have a computer screen dash run by my tuning software and i could make changes in the ECM software with it how cool would that be

Ipod touch.. they have the data link harness and software for 120 ish or something.

I imagine actual tuning software is more but still doable.

I cant see why you would need to do any actual tuning changes frequently enough to warrant the ability though rather than with efi live or hp tuners at the initial set up.

I would be using HP Tuners if i did it, To get a tune perfect takes a long time, Getting it 90% of the way is pretty easy but with all the temperature compensation tables and such there is always minor tweaks to be done to get closer to 100%

I do OEM tuning work for a living so i am always noticing little things that need minor adjustments

I've used torque for android and a bluetooth ODBII to read codes on the fly kinda cool. Also having the extra gauges is neat. Lags a little but works pretty darn good.

Also you can get an offbrand android tablet for like 200 bones not to shabby.

I'm planning on getting a tablet sooner or later (likely later) and running TunerProRT or something on it. Or maybe building a computer to handle that and tunes.

Yeah, someday.

Back to the OP though, yes, it's a good idea.
