death wobble strikes again!!!I think i fixed it not sure though..page3

x2 the death woble can happen on any car or truck and be caused from many diffrent things...like tires, brakes, steering problems, suspention problems, alignment just about everything in your front end..

Hmmm

I thought it had to do with the D60 king pins...:doah:

Check your drag link, I replaced mine becuse when I hit the brakes my truck would go all over the road, I was out wheeling one day heard a pop and couldn't turn left any more, busted a tierod in the drag link, took it off and replaced both ends, now when I go down the freeway and jam the brakes it stops straight, not to mention I can almost pivet when turning, I always had to make a 2-3 point turn when in the trails, Dave

This is great advise. Something is wore out of your front end to allow movement when braking. Does the wheel pull to one side when braking. Ahh, what kinda truck and axle are we talking about here also? i didn't see anything specifying that.

a burb and a 44...yeah it pulls but you kinda expect that with 38 inch boggers...

there are alot of great answers in this thread even the one about the worn brake caliper,i replied before reading the all 3 pages,Dave

ok so today i took the truck for a lil drive got about 1/2 mile from the house and the truck was jumping around a bit (flat spots in the tires)..i hit a dip and the wobble started but just slightly then it got a lil worst by this time i hit the brakes and the steering wheel started started whiping all over the place...luckily i was going slow...turned around to go home and it came back again...i stuck my head out the window and saw the left wheel whipping back and forth ...felt like the right side was pulling more..so i checked out the truck when i got home and the lug nuts were hot...jacked it up and the tires barley spun...just like the other side the caliper was seized up i put a new caliper and didnt get a chance to bleed the brakes so i havnt driven it yet...my question for you guys is were they just old bad calipers or is something causing theese calipers to seize up???sorry for the long story but i wanted to explain it as best as possible...

I don't know about a bad batch or anything...

But I did have my passenger side caliper seize up last summer. All it did was put drag on the truck so it was harder to accelerate and maintain speed. Other than that there were no other signs of anythin wrong other than a groaning as I neared a full stop. And then of coarse the smell of burning brake pads.

Some times your brake hoses can collapse internally and cause the calipers to seize, just a thought. When was the last time the hoses were replaced?

awaiting some others to chime in on this ...[You said you changed the front axel did somebody change your caster angle? Caster is the amount your upper ball joint pitches backward or forward you want positive caster meaning the upper ball joint is farther back then the front one is. What you describe is very common in jeeps when sombody does a spring over and does not know what they are doing and pitch the pinion up for better drive line angle, when this is done the caster goes to negitive and they handle with the exact same proplems you discribed. I do not see this much on full size trucks because the axles are just swapped in ,no need to weld new perches on the axle and suspenion companies are aware of it and design there kits so it not a proplem. /quote]
