I've had issues with Death Wobbles with several of my trucks and have got loads of helpful information both here and Pirate. There doesn't seem to be a single solution, DW can be caused by a multitude of things ... I'm guessing we'll come up with a cure for cancer before DW.
I have always heard a steering ram was the end all to Death Wobbles, the problem was, most guys with steering rams were past the point of street driving their rigs and I never heard a true answer.
I have a strock 87 3500 with a D60 front, street driven, work truck. I've done everything from replace front leaf springs, hangers, mounts, bushings, etc. all the way up to the steering box, rag joint and brace. I've tried all the tricks, adj. alignment, washers on King Pin springs, you name it. It all got better, but from time to time, I'd get the wobbles. When I did the steering box, I got it ported, just in case, seemed like a good idea for $40.
About 2 weeks ago, I finally broke down and purchased a steering ram. I welded it right onto the stock tie rod. It's been 2 weeks of driving and I've tried all the "Tricks" that use to bring out the Death Wobbles and nothing.
I'm sure there is something I missed when rebuilding everything as I doubt the truck DW from the factory, but heck, I've got it licked (knock on wood) and am tired of swapping parts spending money.
That's my contribution to the cure of Death Wobbles. Hope it helps someone.
