Decision Time! My humble build! "Flexed" it, 5/21/09!

Nice lookin' shop setup... next time you're in there pull that chuck key out of the chuck on the lathe and set it somewhere else ;)

Good call. I had to bust his chops on that one. He is an efficiency and safety expert in the engineering field.:haha:

Driver's front shock is in. It's all I had time for this afternoon. After all, I had a round of golf to play. League starts on Mon. and I haven't swung a club since my herniated disc last Sept.

I broke 100:woot:, that never happens. Shot 49 on the front nine, and 47 on the back nine! Hope the league goes that well.

Back to the truck. I have the Ford towers installed in the middle of the shock's travel. I don't think I'll ever flex that much, but the stop will limit compression to 6". The shock will give me 6" compression and "6 droop. Both the steering shaft and the clutch linkage will clear quite easily, and on the passenger side, the AC box will clear.

Hope I did it right.:dunno:

If it works, you did it right. :waytogo: :D

How much lift are you running? Are the lower shock mounts stock? How high above the frame rail would you say the upper shock eye is? I assume you are using 12" travel shocks. I am looking into doing this as well.

I am running a 6" Skyjacker lift with 1" zero rates by ORD. The lower mounts are NOT stock. Just some welded on bracketry. The axle came off my '88 Blazer that had duals. I just used the lowest mounting hole. The upper eye is about 3 1/2" above the rail. I am using the 12" Bilstein 5125's. There is quite a bit of clearance from the steering arm, but on the passenger side, it will be quite close to the AC box.

Hope these are helpful!

Just got back. Shot 53, still kinda happy with it. Had a couple of good drives, a couple good fairway shots. A lot of BAD putts and pitches. I guess my short game sucks.:( It could've been worse!

One of my favorite movies, right up there next to Tommy Boy!:haha: Though I seem to have the same anger issues as Happy Gilmore!

I like the progress. And as for that gauge hole, what about using something like a vacuum gauge there? Good way to see what the engine is doing, as well as help with fuel consumption if you keep it in the green zone.

Great idea! I don't know the first thing about how to hook one up though. I do know it would have helped me last summer. I ended up finding a whole bunch of dry-rotted lines behind the TB. I never realised how big a difference a loss of vacuum could make in how the truck runs. I lost about 4mpg for 2 tankfulls before it was suggested I look for a vacuum leak. Live and learn.:D

its super easy.

full manifold vac like the one your brake booster would be hooked to or and the back of the intake there is a 1/4 pipe thread hole you can use with a reducer for this.

i have 1 in my truck and love it for towing and fuel milage. it lets you know whats going on in the motor. and how much load is on it and the tranny also.

this one is good. http://www.autometer.com/cat_gaugedetail.aspx?gid=3256&sid=12

but this is best i think for color coded info. http://www.autometer.com/cat_gaugedetail.aspx?gid=2479&sid=1 and it can be removed from the flat mount and stuffed in a round hole.

Thanks Brett, always the wealth of information. I think that is how I'm going to go. It just sucks that I have to take the dash apart...again. Oh well:o.

As long as I'm here, I did get confirmation of my crossover being shipped. It should be here Thursday. Hopefully the weekend's weather will be agreeable for installation. Maybe I can get it painted before then.

I should also be seeing my driveline brake by early next week. If so, I hope my buddy has his shop up and running to do my driveshaft(s).

I did start on the passenger side shock tower. I got the brake line clamps off, and a chunk of wood between the frame and lines, just in case I get a little over zealous with the drill. Then it started raining and put an end to that.:(

Hope things are going well with your toy build also!!:thumb:

fyi just to bust your ba!!s a bit if you had asked i have 2 complete crossovers with high steer arm's and studs and pitman arm in stock waiting to go on. and for dana 60 axles also.

if you asked i might have let you swap out 1 of mine to get you going then give me yours. :doah::angry1::doah:

oh i am sorry thats just wrong :haha::haha::eek1::doah:

Man, it's tough to have friends on here. Thank God I don't have many enemies.:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

I would think after you start seeing where it normally sits, that it would become pretty easy to diagnose a vacuum leak. Once you get used to where it normally sits while cruising, if you start seeing lower, you then know to look for a leak. It was just an idea that I thought would fill the hole, and they are a valuable tool.

GREAT idea lectric80! That's definitely where I'm going to go. It is now on the list of things to do!!

Pass. side tower and shock is in.

I'll keep it quick and simple! Got the tower and shock mounted. It all worked quick and easy! They kind of stand out in the dismal color of the engine bay!
