Decision Time! My humble build! "Flexed" it, 5/21/09!

Nice. :waytogo:

Must feel real good to give her a workout. :D

Looking forward to the day I can get mine dirty.

nice.... looks like a fun day out...

looks great covered in muck!

It's a blast! I'm so glad that nothing broke. The steering was a little whiny, but all else was good!

Thanks, enjoying it is the plan. Hopefully a little longer than the last major breakdowns. It's been alot of fun working on it.

Thanks to all of you at CK5, for all the info and support.

Still the best $25 spent yet!:deal::thumb:

I gotta give my wife a lot of thanks too. Her support, and my allowance, were big helps!

HAD Driveline Brake and Driveshaft mods!

I finally got my driveline brake installed. A good friend is in the process of opening a new "speed" shop. He is specializing in engine machine work and driveshafts. He is still in the process of getting the shop together, but has made a few shafts for friends. I am one of the lucky ones.

Here are some pics of the process of cutting down my shaft, installing the double cardovan, alignining the ends, welding and balancing. I'm very happy with the results. The drive is so smooth now, I never knew I had a problem with my old shaft, wow, what a difference.

Still to come, figuring out the brake cable.

Thanks! I don't know exactly how close it is, but I can get my hand over the top of it. I will take a measurment this afternoon when I am trying to figure out what to do about a cable!

Thanks again!

sexy dude!

What are you running for a cable?

Thanks!

I still don't know what I am doing for a cable. That will be this afternoon's project! I'll get some pics up when I'm done. I DO like to pic whore!:eek1:

I can't wait to see what you do for the cable. I am now considering this option for the emergency brake on mine, although it will be a long time before I can get to that point.

Didn't get too far on the e-brake cable today. It was 80 and sunny and will be for the next few days. So...off with the top.

Now I will go make plans for the cable!

She cleans up real nice.

Thanks, in truth, there are quite a few "pinstripes" from my woods, not to mention the dents above the tailights on both sides.

At some point, it will be military olive drab with flat black trim and accessories!

E-brake cable.

Well, did some more red-neck engineering today. I don't know if it is permanent, but it works.

I used some threaded rod and cable clamps to attach the existing cable to the HAD driveline brake. The existing cable runs through an existing hole in the frame, then through a pulley, also bolted to an existing hole, to change directions. Then the cable is clamped to a piece of threaded rod (5/16") threaded into the swivel adapter that comes on the arm of the brake. The rod gives a little adjustment if necessary. Right now, the brake pads touch the disc at about half pedal. It stops the truck from a slow roll at about 3/4 pedal. The pedal comes back most of the way on releasing the brake, but not quite all the way. It does fully release the pads though.

It needs a little more work to keep the cable from chafing on the frame, and maybe a little tighter adjustment, but it will now pass an inspection!
That was my goal.

Please flame away! I need any ideas that may improve what I did.

Thanks guys, now for some pics.

Flexin'

After adjusting the e-brake cable, it holds much tighter, and the pedal comes back all the way when released. I think I am done altering things... for now:D

Went up to my buddy Jeff's place. Used his old (rebuilt) Ford backhoe to flex our toys. Mine did better than I expected. I didn't figure on much flex with the 6" springs, but I got 24" under the front tire, and 28" in the back. I don't think that's too bad considering it is more of a mud/trail toy than a crawler.

I am happy!
