Deisel 4L80 ECM

OK, what's the deal with these?? I've read for years that the early GM deisel 4l80s w/ the standalone ECM was the one to get. With this setup it can go into just about any vehicle. But since I finally got one, I've been doing some reading, and keep seeing that it will need to be reprogrammed, or use a gas ECM from a 350-454/4L80. Some say with 4 wires it will swap into a TBI truck. Does anybody have first hand experience with this?? I want to swap it into my Blazer along with the 454, but if it's not gonna work, then I'm gonna get rid of it..
 
Iv'e read that too, but in less whoever is telling the story is full of sh!t, it didn't need to be reprogrammed?? Some said yes some no. I just want to figure this thing out....
 
if that's the case the only thing would be the ecm that needs to be changed, did you say you have one for a diesel? if you decide to get rid of the diesel ecm lmk, email or pm me
 
Deisels were the only one to have the stand alone ECM. I think I found a 350/4l80 ECM and harness, just need to see if it's compatible with the 454 and my truck harness....if it is gonna work, make me an offer....

Well I can guarantee that the shift points are different. The diesel ECM isn't going to let the motor rev to 5500 before shifting like the gas ECM would. The diesel will shift at ~3K probably.
 
I knew that the shift points were gonna be different, but some how I thought that with the tach, TPS, and forgot the other that it might change the shift points. Does anybody know who can reprogram the ECM to a gas??
 
I got a cooked 4L80-E in the '96 3500 I just picked up. I'll scoop the tranny ASAP if stonagemax wants just the ecm. I don't need the ecm, just the tranny..............

if you can crate it to ship somehow.
