I need the gear indicator from the steering column for my 80 GM. I think they are the same from 73 to 87 / 91, but the books say I need one from a 79 to 83. If it looks like the one below (with the indicator not broken off!) I'll take it. Make sure it still slides smoothly. If you don't have the wire, that's OK, I can dig that up somewhere else.

Shipping to: San Francisco CA 94112

Thanks,

Eric M.

The only difference on '84 up is the OD position for the 700R4 trucks. Should be the same if it was a TH400 truck. I'll look at my guage clusters tonight, but I think all of mine have OD.

Didn't have a AC guage cover for you either. Only nice 73-80 cover I had was non-AC.

If I remember correctly, the 73-79 indicators were red in color, and changed to orange in mid 1980; about the same time they started putting square headlights on them. Which guages are you running? That would determine which indicator you need. I'll look at my stuff.

I think I remember reading something about red / orange also. Maybe I'm getting color blind or the plastic over my guages and indicator is so faded, I can't tell the difference. I'd say orange, but if you have a good working red one, send it over ... I can't tell the difference!

Thanks,

Mine is an 83 , and I have P-R-N-D-3-2-1 on mine , with automatic overdrive printed across the top in small letters .

I got another from bablazer73 , that is the same off a newer truck , but shows P-R-N-(O)-D-2-1

The first year for the overdrive was 1982 , so watch out for the wrong markings if you have the 3 speed

I found it but my pointer is broken also. It is red atleast what is left is and the one in my 87 is orange if that matters any.

Sorry I was not able to help out after all.:o

I just went out to the shop and grabbed these two. One is a red and the other an orange. Notice the different font typeface between the two also.

Do you need just the plastic indicator or the whole assembly?

I think I'm set. I've got someone who is mailing me a new in the box OEM unit. If you want to part with just the pointer of the red one, I wouldn't mind having a spare for the next time one of mine breaks, I've got several GM and they all seem to develope the same issues one by one.

Let me know.

Thanks,
