delusional jeep guys

I had a 1990 Wrangler for 3 years before I got sick of it (Jeep - Just Empty Every Pocket, Just Expect Every Problem, Just Everone Else's Parts, etc).

Personally, I got stuck quite frequently because I was trying to do stuff my little Jeep just couldn't do. I was always very thankful to anyone who pulled me out of my "stuck". I frequently had Nissan's, Toyota's, other Jeeps, Fords, Chevy's, and once or twice a Suzuki. Regardless of what the other person was driving, I thanked them profusely. And if someone was stuck, I'd help out, regardless of make.
The only time I refused to help was when I came across a couple of rednecks in a 70's Bronco with 8" lift and 38's that had gone plowing through a 2 1/2' deep mud hole at a good 40mph or so and had hydrolocked the engine.
I offered my assistance and was told my "pansy ass Jeep toy couldn't mve their real truck". I said that was fine, then drove right on past them in my Jeep with no lift and 30" tires.
So far, the only thing I miss about my Jeep is the size...it fit in some places that my K10 won't. Beyond that, my K10 owns the Jeep hands down.

Anyway, if you like the hobby of 4 wheeling, it shouldnt matter what the other person has...but I did go out with some Jeepers who refused to have anything but Jeeps on the trail with them and it really irritated the hell out of me. The only requirement I have for wheeling with someone is A) Have a 4x4. B) Enjoy the hobby.

I think it’s more due to the sheer number of Jeeps out there that make it hard to not run into a group with a few asshats in it. You have the same type that buys a Z71 and thinks there poo doesn’t stink just like the jeepers do but there’s just more Jeeps out there. I spent Memorial weekend surrounded by nothing but Jeeps and only ran into a few that had a bad attitude towards my fullsize. As expected it was mainly the ones with mildly built Jeeps that had the biggest voice but after they broke just trying to get to the first obstacle the ride got much better.

I take the bad comments with a grain of salt and keep my mouth shut when it comes to this kind of junk. No matter what kind or how built a rig is there’s always another out there that’ll spank it. And rest assured if someone’s talking smack that “other” rig seems to find a way to set things strait. Karma is a great thing.

Well I have a jeep and a K5, I just started building the K5 so I have no time in the seat on the trails. So I cant compare the two yet. But the club I wheel w/ has every kind of 4x4 vehicle out there. You cant just put a label on some one just because he drives a jeep or a what ever, just because you had a bad experence with one person. Just remember its always the one idoit out there wheeling that ticks you off that you remember the most, not the guy that helped you pick a line to keep you from getting stuck.

i know we all have are opinions about didderent 4x4's. i still stay stock to stock jeep is going to do more off road then any other truck.
give me a holler sometime and lets go wheeling, ill show ya how fun a good group of jeep guys and gals can be. - chris

Well my server is down right now so I cannot post pics....

however... I went out with 1 stock and 1 fairly stock jeep... NEW TOO!!!!

remember my post listed as RootBreaker's first time out???

anyhow..
stock fer stock... jeeps are not trail worthy as advertised... prime example and I have video on my web server....

the guy moved forward a bit and one tire on each side spun... and he burried it... oh did I tell ya the lil dirt pile was maybe 8" tall????

Also I dont bash ANY vehicle unless the guy asks for it....

p.s. sometime Ill take you up on that beer...

::cough:: I think a lot of people are missing that, If I take the right line, I can make my stock K5 on 32's go where it shouldn't, just a matter of knowing my limits and weak points, and how to drive properly (and when to go around an obstacle).

:: (and when to go around an obstacle).

I used to get laughed at for that... however I had the fewest broken parts...

even pushed it and amazed people...

had 33's and 3" body lift... I followed guys with 38+ tires... they went through the bath tub and I lined up... a new guy was like... HE AINT GONNA MAKE IT... they said...he knows what he can and cant do.... lets put it this way.. there is a pipe that runs in it..... I got air out of the mudhole.... and made it :cool1:

something about that knowing what you can and cant do....

Being a Jeeper I have to say this is the exact reason why I refused to join any of the "Jeep Only" clubs. Jeps are so popular because they are the easiest thing on the planet to modify. Every manufacturer makes a nice shiny bolt-on part for it.

Hell, I bought my XJ because it was easy to lift and easy to take care of.

I hate the elitist attitude and I really hate it when it comes from some snot nose kid who just finished having 4WheelParts install his Rubicon Express lift. I mean dang, I at least did ALL my own work...so that counted for something.

Meh...Jeep, the ultimate bolt-on part.

We have about 50 members in our club, and the biggest majority drive Jeeps. There are only two of us with fullsizes that go on the club rides on a regular basis, with a couple more who show up every once in awhile. It took awhile to gain the respect of everybody in the club but now pretty much everybody recognizes our trucks as some of the more capable rigs around. I was voted president of the club for 2 consecutive years, and the other fullsize guy (Ford, but we'll let it slide) is the current president.

Of course they aren't exactly stock rigs either........mine K5 is 1-ton, locked f&r, with 38's and the Ford F-250 has all of the goodies including 42's on 3" of lift (lot's of fender "trimming"), Dana 60/70, lockers, 1410 driveshafts, 460, etc... so a typical Jeep with 33's just ain't gonna' keep up on a real difficult trail.

A lot of the uppity Jeep guys who don't like fullsizes are just going on the stereotypical fullsize truck...........a bunch of rednecks in a junk truck with big tires, and a fear of body damage, who just want to play in the mud.

Overall our group gives each other a lot of good natured brand loyalty based ribbing, but we have quite a diverse group. When I get a trailride together I invite guys with everything from old flatfender Willy's, Sami, early Broncos, Jeeps, Toyotas, etc.....

what kind of stock jeep? i shouda clarified that also in my post. a stock TJ SE 4 banger isnt going to do that well, i agree it shouldnt be trail rated. now lets look at a stock rubicon. factory 31x10.50, air lockers front and rear. dana 44 front and rear. its a real capable machine. take a stock s-10 blaser, stock ford escape/explorer, cant hold a candle to it. but again id like to see ur video and pics. like you said driver skill has alot to do with it to. for example beast can vouch for this he has the video. my buddy has a k-5 on 35" swamper tsl's with a jeep body on it. he crossed the creek and was struggling going up this small hill it was greasy. i crossed the creek and i walked up it with alot less effort. he is a better driver than me too, i think sometimes the wide tires can hurt ya offraod and the skinny ones will help ya out. i only have 31x10.50 on mine and it'd suprise ya. 97 and newer jeeps when dico'd front sway bar can climb and artiulate over all kinds of stuff. if yad like to see more pics just ask ben and i have a ton from the last 2 outtings and i sent ben 2 cd's with pics and video on it. the beer is in the cooler now lets just find time to wheel. -chris

Wait a minute, don't most jeeps (ones that want to go big anyway) go for Full with axles from full size GM or Ford trucks? SM420 and 465 manual trannies were the hot ticket for CJ's....Wonder where they got them?? NV4500's too. Who's ever seen a small block chevy or 4.3 v6 swap to a jeep before?

My point is the highly modified Jeeps really are nothing more than Jeep bodies with the entire drivetrain/axles out of something else. Just like your buddy with a jeep body on a K5 frame.

Everybody has a prefernce. It is the rabid loyalists that spout off at the mouth that annoy me. Best you can do is prove them wrong. My buddy did the Grizzly lake trail here in Colorado. It is a tight narrow trail with a nasty shelf road with a major vertical drop. He made it to the lake at the top with a 78 K10, 3/4 ton axles (open) 4" lift on 35" swampers, 454/465/205. when he pulled up to the lake he found a couple of highly modified Jeeps who's owners jaws dropped to the ground seeing this truck roll up to them. Kind of knocked the wind out of thier sails without saying a word.

What if you compared a rubicon to say a Dodge power wagon with 33's, front and rear lockers and a factory winch? Or a TRD tacoma or nismo frontier with there factory lockers? S-10's, escapes, and explorers were never meant to be off-road beast, those would best be compared to a grand cherokee (which im sure would still beat the S-10's & such) or a Liberty.

The nice thing about arrogant Jeep guys is that they can't handle what they dish out. So, I shovel it back to them. They usually throw tantrums.

None of them ever seem to catch on that I leave the non-arrogant Jeep enthusiasts alone.

BLEEP yep ben its the bleep. lol yeah id love to see some video. theres a link on www.iowa4wd.com of a YJ with a chevy newer vortec motor in it. check it out its bad a$$.

are those 33"'s factory? the rubi does come factory with the 31's. i didnt know any chevy ford or whatever it was had factory lockers. thats neat glad more than just jeep are using them. but serious if u havent seen a all stock rubicon wheel there pretty neat. trust me if i could afford a big chevy or ford id have one. i like the top and doors off the jeep and the cheap payment with a 7/70k warrenty. post some pics of your rides. i would but i dont know how. if ben reads this he might post one of me. itll probably be a stuck picture not one winching out the burb :P hehehehe again sorry that most jeepers ar a-holes. -chris

A 1987 shortbox standard cab Chevy with the sport package (bucket seats, 31" rubber) and a 350TBI/SM465/NP208/G80 govlock was the shiznit compared to a Rubicon. And they only cost $9,000. Even with inflation you could afford the shortbox easier.

A Rubicon would be cool if it wasn't so expensive. In fact, Jeeps would be cool if they weren't so expensive. Dollar for product delivered you get the shaft when buying a Wrangler.

Are you stereotyping me?

:xmas:

I think the main point here is the jeep guy did not even say THANK YOU... Then to make matters worse he spouted off with a cocky attitude... I don't think that type of stuff is limited to 4x4 wheeling...I bet if you give that same guy a cold drink of water on a hot day he would still not say THANK YOU and then he would tell you how much he likes X brand of water better...

I see that same type of attitude when Im out fishing on my boat...Take last year for instance I was out about 15 miles or so from the boat ramp and came across a couple fellows in a fairly new boat broke down...So me and my 2 buddies pulled up to see if we could help... They asked if we could tow them back to the ramp which will be time consuming especially when your in a 19ft and there in a 21ft so we said ok...They seemed all right at 1st but as we were pulling them back in they started making alot of comments about how their fancy new boat was bigger and better then mine... My buddy got tired of hearing it after about 20 minutes and threatened to un-hook the rope and leave them there :D ... I just told them if their boat was so much better then mine why was I towing them in :D . When we got back to the ramp I asked if there was any thing else I could do to help them and they said nope and walked away... I lost a half a day of fishing not counting the gas I burned and they didn't even say THANK YOU.. :angry1:

I believe in the '' leave nobody behind'' policy...So It wouldn't matter to me what a person was driving I would help them out in any way I could...I help out people when ever I can and Im glad to to it...I keep in mind it might just be me on the other end of the rope that needs some help... I don't expect anything from a person when I help them but a THANK YOU is nice to here...

I don' think it is so much of a brand loyalty thing ,it is more of more of a person that has no manners, ungrateful, ignorant, and dis-respectfull in all things in life... So don't let those type of people people ruin your day or keep you from helping out in the future...There are more good people then bad over all... Im a chevy guy and know alot of people that drive something different and we rib each other all the time but we help each other out anyway possible... We also say THANK YOU to anybody that helps us in anyway..

Speaking of knocking the wind out... When I had my lifted Dodge Ram with 36" mudders, I went up a mountain trail in colorado where I had found a good clearing for camping. I liked it up there because I never saw anything but modified 4x4s make it that high and I liked the solitude. One day, we were up there shooting and drinking (I know, stupid, but what do you expect from cops?) and from behind us on the trail we hear what sounds like a quad or dirt bike..... up drives a 70's beetle. Not a baja or anything, just a beetle. About 6" clearence and maby 19" tires. Yeah, they were scraping on everything and their rockers were toast, but the guy told me he paid a $100 bucks for it and wanted to have some fun.... I went higher the next time out there.
