Would you use it?
It's off a 01 Duramax steel shaft.

No. The center of gravity on that part of the shaft will no longer be along the center and you'll have a slight vibration.

I'd use it to crawl home at 30 mph or less...otherwise I'd say its scrap iron...

The amount of damage even a slightly damaged or out of balance drive shaft can do to the rear diff, transfer case and transmission will cost a lot more than having it re-tubed and balanced...

Is tubing cheap enough that the yoke(s) and slip section could be reused but with a new tube? Just an idea, if this is already your piece.

250.00 to re tube and balance.... 450.00 for one from the wrecker, only two in Alberta right now! :doah:

I'm looking on the classifieds for one!

Unless you can find one on a driving truck,I'd opt to have it tubed and re-balanced--chances are slim to none of finding one thats not bent, dented or tweaked at a salvage yard...the forkloader usually ruins every shaft that comes in on a vehicle...and it's cheaper to get yours re-tubed and have it be "right".

Lol Dave!
Bob I totally agree... was thinking I'll talk the our machinist buddy's up the road from us and see if they can retube it for me... I use to get a guy to shorten and lengthen driveshafts for me when I lived in BC and never had any troubles!?

I'll see what they think.

Yeah! that's what I was worried about! :haha:

Just don't let the boy roll to much coal :haha:

450$ for a used steel shaft sounds like a rip off if I ever seen one.

But $250 for a retube is fairly reasonable. Paid like $350 for the Beaumont to be shortened 3" and a new yoke/balance/joints last year.

No Sh!t Jesse! 450.00 is retarded!

Probably go with the retube but the front yoke is not so nice because it ran with no oil in the tcase for a eon or two! Man people can be dumb...but thats how you get a deal!

Just that because it's cheep or free don't mean your not going to spend any money on it to get it right! :haha:

My k10 won't have much untouched on it when I'm done, and it was pretty well free too :doah:

:eek1: dam your north prices.

I got a new 1410 with slip joint on shaft with spicer parts made at my local shop and it was about 300 or just a hair over .

what the heck is driveline stuff made of gold up there . ?

even 250 for a retube is crazy .

Thats crazy expensive..lol. I had my 03 hd shaft retubed, balanced for 80.00. It was another 150.00 for both ujoints and a new slip yoke. Thats going all spicer.
