So, my 06 is getting up there in miles. Great truck, absolutely love it. Want to keep it going, biggest issue is rot in the cab.

Through experience, I feel the GMT800, overall, is a better truck than the GMT900, and I wont pay the price for newer. Rust is taking over, how hard is it to find a rot free extended cab(cab only, maybe doors)? Are guys parting these out at all? I bought this truck with 120K on it, 247K now, lower mileage 05-06 trucks are priced higher than I paid five years ago.

I'm seriously considering the idea of a cab swap, vs rust repair. Is it something I could track down from the midwest? I would probably/hopefully grab doors as well. 20191222_013024.jpggood side of the truck in question. What a sexy biotch.

FWIW: in untuned form, it took an at the time, new, 14 Silverado in some stoplight fun, and was pulling away hard at 85MPH. the L33 is the little engine that could, even with a supposed 45 horse deficit.

There was this roadtrip... long story short, before the tune, we did 94.5 MPH for an hour and a half, that truck saved us from a long, terrible drive... well, the truck and a case of keystone Light for the passengers.

I just bought a really nice 03 with some front end damage for 900.00 , and that’s up here I would think you should be able to find a “complete” truck down south for that much or maybe cheaper

the 99-2010 had bad rocker design they all rusted from the inside out . the aftermarket weld in repair rockers are a lot thicker than stock was .

if you want a rust free cab good luck only way i see it is if you find one from a dry enviroment and then undercoat / rust prevent the hell out of it .

I don't believe that it would take much to find a good cab from what I see around here. The price can vary a bunch as some want too much for what they have, but I have also seen some stuff go too cheap.
The problem that I would guess is getting the one you want probably will take a little time and then travel or shipping.
I have seen some get parted around here, but I haven't looked in depth at the condition. We generally don't see too much rust, but I have no idea how easy or expensive a cab would be.

Damn, that sucks. You’re 3 years too late on a clean GMT800 I threw away. Here is the old classified. I still have a few things left from it like all the airbags, cluster, and some other small interior odds and ends.
